My mom used to tell me that if I ate too many pickles I would lose weight. Just wondering is this true?

I hope so! I have heard that cucumbers are good if you are trying to lose weight. I have also heard vinegar is a good diet aid and pickle juice is kind of like vinegar.

Yea I just remember eating a lot of bread and butter pickles when I was smaller. Mom would stop me saying I did not need to lose weight LOL. Now I like the dill pickles well actually any pickle. I just need to remind myself to eat a pickle when I want a snack LOL

I'm pretty sure it depends a LOT on what else you may be eating. Cucumbers are good for you, but pickles are more than just cucumbers. They have been 'pickled', which means they have been soaked in vinegar, which is high in sodium. Sodium is bad. Too much salt makes you retain water like crazy, and also increases your blood pressure. If you regularly consume a large amount of pickles (or really anything high in sodium), make sure you drink plenty of water.

THanks for the information. I don't consume a lot of sodium in my other foods as I generally cook what I make. I follow the labels and don't overeat the number of pickles they say on the jar. I just remembered my mother telling me to stop eating pickles because she said I would lose weight. I loved to eat the Bread and Butter Pickles as well as the Dill.

LOL I get a snack size bowl about a 1/4cup and have my bread and butter pickles. There is a lady that makes them homemade and sells them. Man are they awesome! My husband has diabetes he was in the military when he was diagnosed with it. This is before I met him. He had a dietician that told him he could have all the turkey and chicken lunch meat he can eat. And he holds fast to that and diet cokes and a gallon of tea a day! He does not realize how much sodium he is intaking. I am an ex EMT, Military Medical Specialist, and its like beating my head against the wall to keep him from overeating. I make his breakfast and lunch, and put his 2 snacks in. Tonight caught him made his lunch box and put in fridge already. When I looked in and changed out his breakfast, I found he put 4 snacks in his lunch box. You can't stop someone from not eating thats for sure! He has high blood pressure too. you have a great day!

No worries, sugar ! A lot of people count calories or scrutinize fat grams, but fail to take note of sodium content. I use to have really high blood pressure that was caused mainly from all the salty stuff I was eating. The bread and butter pickles ARE yummy LOL My daughter and I can go through a jar in one sitting like potato chips, if I don't take them away from us and put them up!

Probably. I saw something recently about cucumbers being a good diet tool because of their high water and fibre content.

I have never heard of this. I would think with all the salt that could not possibly be good. If you ate a plain cucumber that would be a better option. No point in putting all that salt into your body only to retain water and possibly cause heart and other problems.
