What? Jury Duty? Who Me?

As we all know we get that dreaded letter in the mail, when we least expect it, "Right? First you have to fill out the Questioner, then they get you.. So how do you get out of Jury duty, or would you want to do it? I myself don't want to for many reasons, and the Court system does not relize why many people can't do it. I myself work my job, and babysit my grandkids who I do take to work with me, so the kids mom would not have a sitter, if not for me. My residents at work just got theirs in the mail, they can't go, that is why they live in the place they are in. Because they can't take care of themselves. But the law says basically on body can get out of jury duty without a good excuse.

I have been called to jury duty twice. First time I got up to the first phase where the lawyer questions you and so forth. I remember the guy on trial whispering to his lawyer and then I was releived. I guess he had been a boyfriend of one of my friends. Big impression he made on me! I didn't know him from Adam. Then my second one I found the correct parking area where all jurors were supposed to park and set waiting like everyone else. We must have waited a good hour after we were supposed to be there before the driver came for us. We were all boarded and half way there when the driver got a call that we wouldn't be needed. I had to call in the next two days and was then relieved again.

I think I have been summoned at least 6 times so far. Once I did make it to the jury box, but back then it was easy to get out of. Then after that most times they picked the jury before my number came up. I think I am good for another year or two. Today I went to the P.O. Box and nothing, so I think I am safe.

Six times? Holly hanna! I hate to think of my next time. I wonder if a letter from my doctor would do the trick. I have social anxiety and it won't be fun for me at all!

Some of my co - workers also went to jury duty which is boring, and you have to wait long long line for the day. I heard on the radio news, one lady pretend to be mentally unstable to avoid the jury duty. Later, she was busted, and now she is serving with a perjury letter. Should our government realize how reluctant some of us not want to serve such duty? Should we given the freedom to choose to attend jury duty or not?

Hi Irishmist, I really envy you for getting such a letter. It must be very exciting to see the legal process at work in this manner. Over here, we do not have jury system. The judge decides everything. If the case is very important, there are a few judges to handle the hearing together. I think I will enjoy jury duty very much if given a chance.
