over jealous boyfriend = afraid of his own doings?

Do you think that over jealoused boyfriends are just afraid that whatever they are up to is being done to them? I have a friend who has a very jealous boyfriend and well we were kidding her telling her he is just afraid of his own ghosts haunting him... do you think there is some truth in this, could it be that we are afraid of our own deeds being done to us back that is why we often get paranoid, etc... any thoughts?
