Are men better chefs/cooks than women?

Even from the prehistoric time it has always been the woman's duty to prepare food for the family while the men hunts for food. It always has been until the present. But I keep asking myself why the majority of chefs/cooks are men when kitchen duties are supposedly for the women? I couldn't help but conclude that the majority of men are better cooks than women. Or is there any other explanation for this? What do you think?

I think that everybody has thier own talents and that there are mena and women out there that can cook exceptionally. I think where the change has happened that people have noticed is that more men cook today than compared to men in the past. Each individual has their strengths and weaknesses and I think that women and men can cook just as good as one another depending on their passion for cooking and their natural ability to create amazing flavours. I think we have just noticed the men more in the cooking arena because we see more male chefs these days than we used to before which could create the illusion of better male chefs. My mom and my dad are both amazing cooks in the dishes they make. Although my mom cooks more often my dad's food is just as good as her's. Each person is good at their own things. A man and woman can both be equally good chefs I think we just notice men more because they are fairly new to arena because previously it would be looked down upon if a man cooked and a woman went out to work. We are becoming an egalitarian society and men and woman can do what they enjoy without being stigmatised.(Stigma still happens of course but not on such a large scale) This is just my opinion and many people may disagree or agree with me. I say to each his own.

I agree with you too. They can both do well in cooking. My parents are both good cooks. My two brothers are too. The other one is a restaurant cook. And I believe I can cook as well as they do.

As I was reading this topic I immediately thought of my mother as she always compliments my father how well he can cook. Infact this is true my father cooks better than my mother though she always does her best to please the whole family. On the other hand when I think of my grandma (may God rest her soul) she was a marvellous cook and always amazed us with her cooking skills. Being subjective I could not decide who cooks better but being objective I agree that the majority of the professional cooks are men and therefore cook well. But all those men who give up their hope to can cook please don't cause indeed men can become good cooks!

It is hard to decide indeed. Your mommy is very lucky. I always wish my man could cook so I could have someone to cook for me sometimes at least. But sadly he doesn't. I'm glad to hear it from you.

We cannot really say that men are better chefs than women. Though there maybe a lot of good chefs that are men, there are also lots of good women chefs too. I guess, since being a chef becomes a desired job by men , specially in cruise ships, that saying was sometimes true.

exception is always relevant, that's the case here. as man don't really belong to the kitchen they try to make it a privilege for themselves, cause not every man can cook and make an art of their food.

oh,well, it's an interesting topic. my father is good cook whereas my mother isn't.when i was a child my father would automatically cook some delicious food for our family and he think what my mother cooked was hard to eat. now i married a woman who is nature cook who always gave me surprise with delicious food and i am happy to clean the house while my wife is cooking.

I'm glad you find it interesting. And I think this will get more interesting since it is getting a little harder to really figure which one is better. Who knows it will come out equal. But still the proof is still around with the majority of male cooks in restaurants and hotels. Haha. I still can't even decide. But I wish there will be tie. If possible.

I love to watch cooking shows, and most of the cooking shows that I had watched, the host whom is also the chef is a guy. And I can see that same as a women, they also prepares delicious foods same as women do. Well traditionally speaking, when it comes to cooking, now wonder women is on the top list. My mom cooks delicious foods for us. But we are living in modern world, men can also do task that women are doing. Especially in cooking.sometimes, men were very creative when it comes to food presentation.

I don't know. But perhaps so because we see more male chefs than female ones. But as to home-cooking, I think women rule because are dishes are considered comfort food and made from the heart. So maybe that's it....men make better chefs, while the women make better home-cooked and comfort food. I'm playing safe here. :)
