Why do beauty queens always have long hair?

Beauty contests are usually about finding the perfect Barbie doll of a person. In most people's eyes, long hair is a sign of beauty. So having long hair would help someone look more like the "perfect" woman to the judges. Although short hair is beautiful too, when it comes to hair and women, most just assume long hair to be the normal beauty standard.

Throughout the history of mankind, a woman's beauty and sexuality has been judged by her hair. This is why most religions have made their women cover their hair at least after marriage. The husband would be jealous if another man admired his woman's hair. There has been and still are many killings over such. Look at the islamic peoples; a perfect example.
