why this is so? do u know the reason?

theatre screen - what is the reason for theatre screen curve?

Hi friends, All of us seen movies in theatres. In some theatres, the movie screen is slightly curved, do u know the reason for their curve ? What is the reason behind it?

The screen is curved so that each point on it is the same distance from the projector. This allows the focus to be maintained over the whole area. This is particularly important when wide screen (Panavision) films are shown. Many screens are only curved in the horizontal direction. The vertical (top to bottom) is not so noticeable if there is a slight focusing error.
