I just heard and watch TV Patrol they just confirm that no Benefits or rewards to all members of the Philippine Team of Dragon Boat that put the name of Philippines to the MAP in sport events like Dragon boat games. Because Govt didn't recognized they are included in Olympic thinggie, that's really sucks and Govt of Pnoy is really ashamable to all of us. Even those competitors in dragon boat they praised and envied all of our Team in dragon boat with 5 GOLDS and 2 Silvers.

I think the Dragon team already know that they will not be getting support from the Government or the Olympic thingie becuase they refused to be associated with the committee. If they did, they won't have the problem of support and recognition. Basically, they wanted to be independent since sports can also have a political arena inside it. I believe that they stated that they don't wanted to be part of the political mess. I guess it is the group's stand and other teams have their own. The government respected that and gave them their due acknowledgement. But that's the only thing the governemnt can do if the team doesn't want to be under its ruling. If they wish to be independent and self-supportive, it's their decision. The only thing is very regrettable is that the team cannot participate in the Olympic games becuase they refused to ascribed with the official Olympic delegation.

It's like a membership. If you are a member of that particular club, you are entitled to certain rules, benefits and obligations. If you're not, then you don't receive those things. I think the government did encourage the nation in supporting (the moral kind) the team becuase they do represent our country in some way. However, I guess that the government cannot meddle into the sports world since they have problems of their own. I think that what the Dragon team tries to tell us is to be independent of the government (help and interference) and we can do some things without that particular entity. This is most effective in sports since the activates require skill, not just who influences who and whose a sponsor of who. Besides, I think they are many athletes who survive on private support than government sponsorship. In governemnt, you will never know if you can get the support needed. Private sponsorship are more reassuring, in my opinion.

I think that's okay since most of the athletes under the Philippine Sports Commision doesn't really win Gold medals. lol The dragon boat team's drive to win is admirable, even though they don't have the recognition of the government, the support of the Filipino people is still with them. I pretty sure that the government will no longer be able to ignore them after this win.

Well there's no money going to their family and to feed them . I wish those rich people in our community will give money as a rewards to them, I'm not one of them but I pity them (their families who were starving).

That's because they refused to be politically influenced by the government. You know us here in the Philippines. Politicians only take action for their own good. If they have nothing to profit from it, they won't even think about helping. Oh well, perhaps they could still make this work. I hope so.

Hi @cadguy08! I am really disappointed that in spite representing the country, Philippines, and the gold and silver medals that the Dragon Boat team earned, they will not get any monetary benefits from it. I believe that if a group that represents our country should be given such awards because they bring honor to our country and they did their best and made some sacrifices to bring this honor to the nation. They deserve nothing less than monetary rewards that are given to other athletes as well. The Philippines Olympic Sports Committee should open their eyes and see the potential of the Dragon Boat team.
