Have you thought about this?

DO you Seek GOD, or do you SEEK the GIFTs he can give you? this was asked last sunday in church service. i actually thought of this and well there is actually some truth in this when i contemplated and really thought hard. Its more often that i would expect him to send over his gifts, and his blessings to me and i am anxious that i call unto him for it... and not call unto him because it is him that i needed, that it is his presence in my life that i yearn for. Do you feel the same too?

It is a good thing you brought this up. Many people look at God as a Genie were they just ask for help and their wishes. That is never correct. This is the reason why a lot of people just seek for what they can get, and not seeking for the Giver. Many times, people remember to pray only when they are in trouble, or there is something they would be asking for. After that, they do not even remember to pray for thanksgiving. How spoiled we are. I think there should be a strong relationship between God and man. God is a living being. He is alive, and He feels like us. He feels anger also. He also feels sadness and disappointment. We have been made in His image. Therefore, we have an idea what kind of God we have. The Bible states it clearly. We can get to know Him better through His Words. yes, it is true, man seeks the gifts and not the Giver. This has got to change.

thank you globaldoc for your response. I agree with you on your points and well that is true, it happens to all of us most of the time that when God does not give what we want, we would tend to point our fingers at him and even challenge him with ways only man can imagine. For me, i admit that i am guilty of this too, i often pray and ask for his guidance and well.. i used to pray and ask for things! haha now i am slowly learning to understand how God works... and that sure is why maybe i often battle with myself in my own understanding of him. :D

If you think about it, part of us seek God's presence and part of us is seeking His gift. As God Himself said that He would reward those who are loyal to Him.

thank you for sharing your insights in this... i agree that yes, we shall have his rewards if we are loyal to him, but then again.. the reward becomes the first that comes to our minds before we seek him?
