Google it seems is on a roll. It has now decided to buy the handset business of motorola for $12.5 billion. Talk about a rich company. Google seem to want to be involved with everything and every kind of business especially the ones related to technology. In the near future, at the rate things are going, Google may control everything. More of the story here http://news.yahoo.com/googles-12-5-billion-deal-did-motorola-want-160927063.html

It is difficult to manage when you have a lot of things on your plate. If they have too much at the same time then it could affect their service.

I don't like total monopolies of any business

Yes monopolies do not give us many options to choose from. A healthy competition is really good.

where I live there is only one company that supplies electricity. Our rates are among the highest in the world. Much more than the USA. Consequently we cannot compete in the global market because of the cost of electricity. It os like we are all being held to ransom by one company and out government is not doing anything about it. My monthly electricity bill is over one quarter of my monthly salary. I get so angry by the lack of caring by governments for the people who elected them to govern.

that sounds like a serious problem, there, cynthiann. thats a lot of money for electricity. i saw on your profile you are in jamaica, so you don't have massively high heating costs, which might explain such high bills. and the price of electricty does impact on an economy. our gas and electricity in the uk prices seem to just keep going up, but its more a cartel than a monopoly, and our government seems completely unaware of the economic problems this causes.

If you are planning on being in the business online I think it is smart to diversify and have several directions you go in. If not, why bother? They bought Motorola and now I wonder what will be next. I think it is a game of who has what. Each company has to match another or there will be another minopoly like with AT&T.

They are really growing and would probably end up being a monopoly like other monopolies in the past. And the usual anti-trust lawsuits will follow and the rest.

But their competition keeps an eye on them and buys as they need to to keep in the game. I really doubt one will become a minopoly.

It sure looks that way. And if they can afford to do it and have the belief that they can do it better, I don't see why they shouldn't be doing it. They have done great until now and I am sure they will continue the same way.

They have a lot of money to spend. I guess they can buy lots of things to improve their business. Hope it will be a good investment.

They have made a lot of money, and now they are diversifying there business, They can run few or many more business but business world is just too big to be controlled by a single entity.

They would surely try to control it all or as much as they can. But I believe in the long run they would be forced to scale down somewhat.

At first I was worried about Microsoft, but now something about all this smells fishy. Let's just see where this all leads. I just hope it's all for the better.

Well, that's just how business is. The rich gets richer because they have more money to invest and the poor people gets poorer because they think the measure of success is to be able to buy what these rich guys sell them.

That is an excellent way to put it. Basically the rich get richer because of of the patronage they receive from their poorer fellow citizens.
