double decker topples!

double decker bus - the double decker bus that toppled over
August 16, 2011 8:14am CST
i wasn't actually aware of this happening, even though it's only about a 30-45 minute walk away from my house, but on sunday that just passed there, the 14th of August 2011, a double decker Translink bus actually toppled over onto it's side! apparently the bus was turning a corner and it mounted the curb, and instead of righting itself, like most buses and double decker buses do, it instead started to wobble and actually fell over onto it's side!! it is incredible that no one was seariously injured or killed! around 30 people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were injured in the accident though, and cutting equipment had to be used to free the driver from the bus! he was apparently the most injured from everyone on the bus, but he is in a stable condition apparently. three of the passengers were treated at the scene by the fire and ambulance services, just for minor cuts, but 27 of the passengers, including the two children and the pregnant woman, were take to 3 nearby hospitals, split into groups of 10, 9 and 8. it was unblieveable, and apparently there is a massive enquiry going on as to what happened. it seems to have been a problem with the bus, but the bus was only serviced in june and was deemed road worthy, so God only knows what happened.. it hasn't said that it was any fault of the drivers though either. it's really shocked me, although i would never really travel on the top deck of the bus anyway because i don't like heights, but its made me think twice about traveling on a bus at all! would this put anyone else off public transport?

I do not really think the U.S. Has many double decker buses. If we do I think it is in major cities. I would have rode on the top if I ever had a chance. That is until you just told me that story! Now I am horrified to even be near one. I hope everyone who was injured gets better soon!

No I hate seeing horrific pictures. Makes my heart break. I have been busy getting son ready for school and catching up on my PFP jobs. I have just received my 2nd payout from them and am quite pleased! Plus as I messaged Someone earlier I have been scanning posts here and not finding much of interest! You and him are the best 2 topic starters that consistently have stuff I can throw my 2 cents into. Guess I am going to have to rack my brain later for some interesting topics. ( that will not get deleted :) )

WOW. I didnt hear about this either. It's my childhood fear come true but as a kid I was always terrified of the bus toppling over and falling into the Liffey! I nearly used to cry when we had to sit upstairs and when the bus turned over the bridge
