A meeting of the minds at the senate..

Whether the senate inquiry yesterday afternoon about the Kulo exhibit at the CCP was a waste of taxpayers' money or not, because a group claims the inquisition is in defense of Christianity alone, respecifically Catholicism, what was more exciting was the seeming meeting of the minds that the invited resource persons kindly shared. The artist in question was a now show, I could understand that. But he would not have mattered at all. For there was enough brains and intelligence in pianist Raul Sunico, chair of CCP and dean of UST College of Music, Director Abrera of the CCP board,Bishop Jose Palma, the representative of the CBCP, novelist F. Sionil Jose, from the literary world....etcetera. Senator Estrada's usual style of unnerving the guests was overshadowed by the well educated speeches and responses of the learned, the calm and composed assessment of what had happened, and the gentle manner by which problems must be solved. Senator Escudero, speaking in the vernacular and his particular monotone trademark, though equipped with sound judgment, was diminished by the splendid rhetoric of the distinguished guests. By way of summation, one resource person implied that art, by and large, depicts what the people are, and perhaps it is fitting to take a look at ourselves now, beginning with the inquisitors, and see if we like what we perceive....

Hi eileen, You're right. The forum showed how to deal with a ticklish issue. If the artist has touched on other militant sect, he would be a hunted person by now. The meeting just showcased how democratic this country is.

Hello eileen, It never would have gone to the senate probe in the first place if they just brought down that particular exhibit. In my view, this probe about the malicious art done by mideo cruz about making christ his new model to fool with is a waste of time, but a probe is probably necessary for future organizers to set standards that would avoid to conflict with religion. I wonder, if this guy would have lived if he mess around with mohammed, he has guts to put malicious parts on Christian God because no one will get closed to him and "blow up" like any regular muslim extreme terrorist. In all honesty, it's those who are in great minds that should be in the senate. unfortunately, those who speak at the senate were one of the remnants from the last decades where most filipinos where highly intellectuals. Thank you for the discussion and have a nice day

Mideo was a case of wrong form of art. He was not even part of the original kulo exhibit, it was found later. Mideo perhaps was the male counterpart of his namesake, Medea! Cruel noh? I could be. But he was cruel first.

I've been watching Senate hearings for the longest time but I cannot recall a personality involved that was jailed. What they're doing is grand standing. I agree, its a waste of taxpayers money. you tell me, if there were already personalities who appeared in the senate that were jailed? I cannot recall not even one personality. only in the phils!

In recent memory, Ligot was one. A case, I believe, was formally filed against him and his wife. Just yesterday, a bookkeeper was also arrested for contempt.
