good day fellow mylotters, for the past few days, i feel so sleepy. i really dont know why. well maybe this is due to the weather here at my end. there are times, the more i sleep longer, the more i feel sleepy. the more i sleep, the more i become sluggish. for this reason, whenever i wake as early as 5 in the morning, i will not comeback again to my bed because, if i will be, i will feel more sleepy again.

yeah I know what you mean. sometimes I think that I'm more sleepy when I sleep more, but then if I only get a few hours without sleep one day then I'll be like never mind I was wrong! It's a different feeling to be overslept and it can give the feeling that your still tired and sleepy but maybe it's that your overslept and that can make you feel sluggish. when I don't get much sleep I seem to focus better on certain things and want to do more things and have more energy although I feel miserable cause I'm so tired. I keep getting a good amount of sleep and keep falling back to sleep over and over again until 12, sometimes even 1.

well I too have experienced this before - when I go somewhere - especially in an unfamilliar environment, I get sleepier and lose energy. I also feel this way when I am upset. In that situation, I'd probably take a short afternoon nap and try and wake up to see if I can get some energy, otherwise I'd just sleep, some relaxation is nessicary for me :P

Keep enjoying your sleep Sheila because there are many in this world who are victims of insomnia. Sometimes weather and sometimes our physical condition and sometimes our mood or sometimes intake of some medicines could make us feel sleepy. This post of your figures in 'mylot digest' dated 18.8.2011, Congrats!

I think that is pretty natural. Do you do much physical activity? Sometimes not doing much like that will make you feel tired even if you sleep a lot. If you sleep too much, I have found that I am more tired as well. Once I wake up, I just stay up because I know it doesn't do any good to do anything different.

I feel the same more often than not. Well, i can say that's due to my working hours and the lack of fitness due to almost zero exercise. Need to hit the Gym soon.

My Biology teacher told me that if a person couldn't sleep for a long time, that is called insomnia; if a person sleep for a long time, that is called laziness.

My mother once told me that the more sleep one gets, the more they need. Sleep the recommended amount of time, then force yourself to get up. Eventually you'll break the sleepy habit.

It happens to many people. I myself have noticed that the more I sleep the more I get sleepy and it happens during cold weather which we normally call bed weather. Well if you are into that kind of situation, just enjoy it. Sleep and sleep for as long as you want for as long as you will wake up after every sleep to at least eat and take some break. Remember there are people who could not even sleep and that's a big problem.

I noticed that too. I found that the best way is to run and get your heart pumping to lose the lethargy.

Yes, the more you sleep, the more sluggish and sleepy you will be. This is because your body will adjust and be accustomed to being as such. I suggest that you try some light exercises and stretches whenever you wake up so that your body will keep those sluggish muscles moving. Even simple breathing exercise can energize you up and remove the sluggishness that you feel.

same here, but perhaps b/c there are some medicine that really makes me feel sleepy. I usually don't have 8 hours sleep, I get more like 2 or 3 hours and its enough for me. If I lay my head Its hard to get up esp if I have work the next day, I think my body is used to this kind of set-up

Hello there. Actually we are experiencing the same problem. Let me share you mine. I got home from the office around 6pm. Then I just take some rest and then I will eat my dinner. After watching my favorite TV show, I will sleep at around 9pm. Then I will wake up at 7am. Therefore, I have 10 hours f sleep. But guess what? When I'm at the office I feel so sleepy. Why should I? I have enough sleep. Then I asked my mom about this. She told me that at my age ( I am 23 years old ) The recommended time of sleep for me is 5-6 hours. The reason why i feel sleepy even if I have a longer time of sleep at night is because 10 hours is already too much time of sleep at my age. Well, I think my mom is right. But I really can't help it. I really love sleeping. I can sleep from 9pm-12 noon especially during weekends. :-P

Yes, I have experienced that before. I used to be really depressed, and I could sleep for hours, but when I got up I felt so slow and sluggish. Kind of like I was just dragging. And I could sleep more and it wouldn't help. But later I noticed I felt like that and I couldn't figure out what it was since I knew I wasn't depressed. So I started taking a multivitamin and then I felt better and didn't have that sluggish feeling after sleeping. But it could definitely be the weather like you said. Rainy days used to do that to me.

I experienced the same thing a lot of times specially nowadays because it is rainy season in our home country. Aside from that there are times also that i already feel so exhausted with a lot of things and my mind seems to tell my body to just stop and slow down. :)

Yes, it's true that when you oversleep, you get tired. Why? Well, because after 7-9 hours of the recommended sleep dosage, your body has had enough time to rest. Since it has had enough time to rest, it starts working. If you sleep 10 hours, your body would have already been up and running and getting more worked up since you're not really using any muscles. Whatever energy you have reserved for motor function is being used up by your physiological functions. Consequently, you get a system that's geared up. The "stress" from these functions takes its toll on your brain which isn't being used for anything else while you sleep except for the normal body processes that's going on in your body while you're sleeping. Hence, when you wake up, you either feel groggy, or your get headaches, or you feel sleepy. Why do you think power naps work? You fall into this deep sort of sleep for about 5 minutes, and you wake up feeling refreshed? It's because your parts of your brain get a couple minutes to rest. When you wake up, your brain can now keep up with the rest of your body.

They say it's because the body thinks that your trying to recover lost sleep in the past but I don't think so. But oversleeping is greatly related to depression and low socioeconomic problem. I've read in an article that people become groggy after oversleeping because their mental state crumbles meaning we inexplicably feel terrible about ourselves after oversleeping and no longer wish to move.
