Murder For Order On Facebook

Once again, we have another account on how terribly wrong things can go when we are careless with Facebook or known social networking sites. I believe the lesson here is who we make friends with and knowing what to do with our personal and private information especially with those whom we break up. I know we can do whatever we like to keep people updated but don't forget to protect yourself. Unlike virtual games, we only have one chance with our lives. So, be careful as the saying goes - its a jungle out there. Online as well! Read more: http://news.yahoo.com/target-murder-plot-hatched-facebook-killed-police-202253432.html

I think it is important to not take it for granted that the people we have on our list's are responsible human beings. I have very few people on my friend's list and am very careful who I except. It is up to us to do that. It is a jungle out there and there are people who aren't respectful and don't care to go by the rules. Strinct boundaries and self respect is important too.

celticeagle, I believe your response here has hit it right on the nail about being mindful on who we befriend and allow access into our circle online. Even in real life, we will still find suckers for ignorance and irresponsible - only to receive a rude and brutal awakening as in this case. Let's hope that this will create the needed self awareness and sense of safety.

It reminds me of the same case a few weeks ago happened here which not involved murder but one guy get hit and punched by a girls' brother with his gang. I am not because of reason but it something because he provoked the girl in Facebook so the girl told her brother and the guy got it. People really need to be careful and beware as things which we might think nothing like facebook can be a scary and horrible things happen to us. I am thinking to delete some of my personal information there.

Parents are supposed to teach their children right from wrong and common sense. However when it comes to the internet many don't employe those lessons. Since it's possible to literally be anyone you want online, many take full advantage of this. Confusion erupts due to the fact words printed on the screen replace faciel expression, tone and other common indicators something might be wrong. And, in the murder case lead to tragic mistakes. While steps are being taken to protect people, no one can be protected from human error and a lack of common sense.

kaylachan, You came up with a very legitimate and real point about protecting our children here. Of late, my concern is that parents aren't doing enough to convince their children of safety practices online. In my family, my wife and I lead by example to teach and communicate with our children which I find this lacking in parents today. So, you can see that we all have our social networking accounts, pay close attention to customizing and care with who we befriend. I find this to be really more effective.

Oh dear I just read that news article and I can't believe how creative and resourceful people can be even on facebook. I don't know (taking a deep sigh), I used to feel secured at facebook before. You know in those golden days, wherein you just have your family and close friends there and you don't allow anybody to be in your list unless you really really know them personally.

lipstick2009, You know, with this current economy their efforts would be better off helping out the country and themselves out of the rut the government and banks have dug. Sad, but I suppose that's life here. Another misadventure on living.

nophie, To be honest, there's really nothing to be afraid as far as Facebook or other known social networking sites are concern. For one, they are tools for you to keep in touch with good friends, love ones and family members. It is the surrounding environment both online and offline, we should be concern but again, not afraid of it. We just need to ask ourselves before accepting the other party as a friend. The care given both online and offline should be equal as threats are as real as it can get. While, it is good to enjoy the euphoria, that is brought by the usage of these social networking technology.

This is really scary. To think that you can hire a killer online is totally insane. And to think that other people will carry the offer as a job is really scary. Killing someone is not a job and should not be offered in a social networking site. It is like they are giving jobs to those people who are capable of killing a person without any trace of guilt.

chiwasaki, My main aim for this is to create a sense of awareness for personal safety online, it is not about scaring anyone. Social networking sites are really great sites for keeping in touch with our friends and family members. As far as being friends is concern, I believe we need to be careful who we befriend and include him/her in our friend list. The other area would be about how much disclose in our profile which will not compromise our personal safety and endanger our love ones and/or ourselves. So, be careful and safe.

Now as we are the facebook user we must be careful to what we are posting because it is a social network a public property.. Once we posted one thing its on the air and for sure if you cannot edit it will read by all. If we cannot manage facebook well maybe not good.

mods196621, I believe we are allowed certain level of customizations that could limit access and even un-friend any undesirables in our friends list. But, it would be of no use if we do not get our hands to do it. Also, this post is just another of my reminders that we should be careful with our personal details online. And, likewise in real life should make careful decisions with who we befriend and meet.

I think that there are lots of people getting killed and not all of it starts with face book or any other site either.I think that it is a sad fact that there are people out there that kill for the sake of it, i also think that it is sad that there are people who are not kept in prison, knowing that they can and will kill people when let out.

jugsjugs, On the topic of Facebook and social networking sites, I believe men (women, as well) have been literally careless and taken things for granted as far as privacy is concerned. Actually, I am sure that you are aware that criminals nowadays are using Facebook and other popular social networking sites to source for their targets. People are being scammed and killed while children are being kidnapped and sexually abused. And, the numbers are increasing and lest we start doing something about it, I am afraid the numbers will be even astronomically scarier. I think the advancements of technology does bring about a lot of conveniences and enjoyments for all of us. But, liken to our expensive and personal things - we need to keep them under lock and key which is all about being safe and secure. So, I really hope that this post will bring another awareness and awakening.

It is fascinating to see how some people can be stupid. I remember a conversation a few months ago about a site created by the police and offering... to hire a killer. And indeed, the site had costumers. A murder ordered on Facebook is a continuity. I don't think that there is a jungle outside, but knowing that somebody can recruit a killer on Facebook for $1000 proves that Facebook is dangerous.

topffer, If I may add - scary as well. I really wished that people online could be as serious as they are offline or in real life. These sites can really be our open books when we are careless and naive about security. Sometimes, I am wondering if these online games are getting into peoples' head that they forget that they only have one chance or rather one life. I just wish that this post will bring about the much needed awakening and awareness. So, do be careful and take care.

That is so sad. It's hard to wrap your head around. I feel like even though the social networking site did make it easier, people are cruel and some people would still do that or attempt to without the aid of Facebook and other sites. This is really scary and tragic though!

StephanieAnnC, My exact sentiments. I hope that we will remind ourselves just how dangerous it can be online and liken to real life - there's only one chance. We only get to live once. Be safe than sorry.

Update your privacy settings in Facebook. I agree with you, its getting dangerous out online. The one we should look for are the teens using facebook. They just dont mind to keep their profile private and add up as many friends they want. Its the quality not the quantity of friends online they should be taught about.

astroversion, Also, I would advise that we should try to reach out to our peers and love ones with this article which hopefully will create the much needed awareness to incite the necessary follow through to protect our friends, love ones and most of all, ourselves. Take care and do the necessary.

facebook is getting worse and worse...you have to protect your self

agapakia, My exact sentiments with your last part of your sentence. Facebook isn't getting worse but it will definitely not be safe for the careless and incumbent. So, let's be aware and do the very necessary to protect ourselves, for no one is going to do it for us but ourselves. Take care and be safe, always!

Well I agree - one should be very careful when dealing with online stuff such as facebook. But I'm not sure how it relates to the person yet - what did that guy do wrong online to ask for this? Or am I just missing something?

windking, Frankly, the deceased only wrong was his choice of his ex-wife who ordered for his murder even while in jail. Finally, someone took the job but I doubt if he/she will be paid for the job since their boss is (still) in jail. Get the picture now.
