Ive received this information on my tech newsletters. Sounds like its the real thing and if you think you can come up with what they need, it might be great for you. Im afraid Im not one of the savvy users though. But if you are, give it a try, and good luck if you do. Heres are 2 links to the story: http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2011/08/04/247517/Microsoft-puts-up-250000-reward-for-new-security-ideas.htm http://www.infopackets.com/news/security/2011/20110816_microsoft_to_offer_200000_for_security_ideas.htm

I guess they're wanting new blood. Sometimes when you are in the same job or situation for a while, you dont see as clearly I guess. So by having new people or layman, then they get a fresh outlook?

As much as I want to believe this I'm actually on the fence. On the one hand it could be legit, but on the other hand a red flag warning popped up that said this is a "scam". It's probably in how you worded it, but I doubt they'd really be holding a contest for something that complex. Design maybe, but security? With all the tools out there, I don't think they'd have any problem coming up with a way to put them to use. EX One care. So I'm not buying into it.

After so many years, and so many operating systems, Microsoft want some security? I don't believe it! Yes, competition ends on April 1, 2012 (April Fools Day). Enough said. I'll stay with Linux.

This sounds like an excellent opportunity for anyone with the skill. Sadly I would not be one of the ones that would remotely give it a try. I wonder if they will release the various ideas and attempts they receive, that should be interesting to see.

I guess this is just one of those Joke that Microsoft puts up for April fools. I never liked the security in Microsft, this is also the reason why I use both Linux and Microsoft. Either way, it would be great if Microsoft would be able to actually put this up as a contest, 250 thou is a huge amount of money.
