Aging is unstoppable. Every year we grow older. As the time goes by we may grow weaker, less active, gain more weight, grow white hairs. This is the fact of life. It's unavoidable. But why do some people still fear getting old? Last night one student of mine constructed a sentence using the expression fear and she said she fears getting old. I asked her why? She said she fears having wrinkles. She's 39 by the way. She fears having gray hair. She fears getting fat. She wants to be 45 kg and she's 165cm tall. She wants to have a 22-inch waistline. If you notice she fears getting ugly! All of the things she mentioned actually concerns physical beauty. She's divorced with two kids and she fears aging for the main reason that she wanted to be beautiful forever! Do you have the same fear?

Because we are woman we tend to feel the beauty is one of the important thing to have. I don't blame people who fear to aging but I don't like them either to fear much of it. I don't like to hear they willing to this and that things to prevent it. It just not correct. The aging will come sooner or later. we will get old so even if we do things to prevent it. It just not work enough. I admit that something the feeling come to me..looking at the skin and expecting how it will become in 7 years when I hit the age of 30 but it will make me feel glad that at least I have normal skin and I should be grateful to be given that by Him. The wrinkles and all aging signs show us that we should use the time we have as we are here not for ever.

When they see the skin it will remind them about the old days..Perhaps that is why they don't want to see them...Bad old days maybe??(^^)

OH so true! We should be reminded by those wrinkles that each moment is precious and we need to treasure every single living moment we have. Thanks.

Wow. I fear her! lol. At that age, 39? she still think of such? it might be normal but, if i would reach that age, i want to be comfortable with myself.. i even told myself that if i reach 30..or by the time i am 30, i would accept aging gracefully, i would age gracefully and accept whatever will happen...but of course those wrinkles and stuff is part of nature and we can still look young even if we age right? by exercise and eating right. But i would not be wishing those she is wishing, hahaha for one, i cannot even have that waist line of 22! unless i would turn back time and go back to my college days where i have a 24 hahahaha but now? that would be a blessing if i could have that back but i have long accepted that i wont be having that waist line again..since i am tooo lazy to exercise To answer your question, no i do have that fear, my biggest fear is actually being alone, losing my family.

I have the same fear as you! My waste is 24 by the way. I used to be 18-22 so i don't have that fear that she has because i'm not longing for something that i already have! I'm 33 and i have been comfortable with the way i am right now! Aging gracefully is what i long for in life and in time i'd like to be called granny! And i would be happy if my grandchildren would call me sexy granny!

Hi Toni! My answer to your question is in negative. I face the reality and do not run away from it. May be your student or many other women feel scared at the thought of getting older and looking less beautiful. However, they need to understand the reality of life. Aging is inevitable and as one grows older, one loses his/her charm and gets physically week. Having said that I would say that one should not not lose his/her spirit of living and optimism for a better future. If you are young at your heart, you will get to fight any odd, however, if you start feeling old in your heart, you will become older sooner than later. One small tip which you could give to your student - she should remain in the company of younger women or women of her age, is she is already not doing so and can also tell her that her fears could make her look more fragile and shaky.

She actually enjoys the company of young people because it made her feel young and look young and other people thought she's young because of her friends. But then it has something to do again with the physical appearance. As i've mentioned to one of our dear mylotters, if there's something i want to keep young forever, it's my heart.

I'm not afraid to lose the beauty of youth. But the thought of getting old per se gives me some kind of fear. What if I'd be alone, already so weak? We do not hold the keys of time, even the fates of our loved ones or family members. What if they go ahead? Aged and alone! I hate to think about it, but everyone should also plan for it, because it will surely come.

True, may be because I really would like to age gracefully. But who will comb my hair when I could no longer raise my arm due to arthritis? Hahaha!

Growing old is the nature of any beings. We are born and then we grow old. But there is nothing to fear. Wrinkles on face should not wrinkle your heart. Growing ugly due to old age should not let your heart and spirit go ugly. Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind. It is not a matter of rosy cheeks and red lips. It is a matter of will, a quality of imagination. No matter how old you are, you are still young if you have will. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubts. As young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear. As young as your hope, as old as your despair. Yes your are young if you have hope, faith, confidence. These may exists in the mind of man of 60 than a boy of 16. We merely grow old by our age. Deserting our ideals will make us old.

Yea our heart should remain young and beautiful forever. It is nice of you. We should not fear old age and wrinkles. No body ca escape from it but it should not affect the way we are.

I used to fear aging. I did.. I thought getting old meant getting fat, getting wrinkles.. but see to be honest? I’m not really that bothered now. Yes I’d love to stay young and beautiful for ever, but see at the end of the day? Everyone around me is aging too! So I’m not competing with anyone am i? the only people I’d be competing with are the people younger than me, and I like to think at one stage, they were competing with me when they wished they were older :)

Well you have not only aged, you have matured! And it's something to be proud of! I used to be like you, self-conscious but as i age every year, i see myself getting younger! Benjamin Button case! Friends told me i never aged at all. I'm aging backwards. But i think it's because of my sunny disposition in life. I laugh and i don't care if i get laugh lines from laughing. I cry, i throw things when i'm angry.. now where's that sunny disposition? I keep my heart young and i want it to remain young forever. I wanna grow old with my family. I'd be happy to be called granny at the right time.

well thats what they say! a happy heart is a young heart :) :) thats so sweet about the granny thing haha!!

AS long as you're slim! I think i don't have problems with being slim. I have difficulty gaining weight. So i wonder if i'll ever be overweight at the age of 40 like my mom.

No not necessarily a fear of aging. Well at least not a direct fear of aging that I have. Rather just a fear that I will not be able to accomplish all that I want to before its too late. Strictly speaking, there really is technically no age limit for a lot of things in life but with age, even with the healthiest people, there comes more physical limitations each and every year. I've had gray hairs since I was in my teenage years. Therefore, I feel like that is not really something that bothers me. Its not really that noticeable. Sometimes you're just going to show signs of aging rather soon. In fact, if you get stressed out about it, you're going to see signs of aging even quicker. Its funny how that works but ultimately true.

Too many things to do, too little time! Oh that's why i'm always in a hurry and my husband would tell me to slow down. But every minute counts and i want to do things before i'm too old and too weak to enjoy them. LIke i've said earlier, when my hair becomes white, i'll wear STorm's costume and learn how to fly! X-men!

I think most women have this kind of fear.We have been busy being beautiful since our teen-age days and as years pass by we struggle more to look younger than our age. The more women age, the more they explore about preservations of beauty by trying this and trying that. And funny cause the more they worry about being young and beautiful, the stress shows in their face and there you go, they age rapidly than how it should be. Isn't it the more we struggle to lose weight, the more we gain weight. I just don't know why.The more we fear about aging , the more it's catching up with us.

True that's why i just want to be naturally beautiful minus the knife! I don't want any surgery done on my body. Oh i'm obsessed with being beautiful but both inside and out. So up until now i'm still trying to practice how to become more beautiful in the inside as i can easily fix my face. But i fear not being old. I would love to grow old at the proper time. Grow old with my family gracefully.

It's great being young and all and yes, it is a little bit scarring, but when I think about that's because I worry about others will think about me then it's more controlable, we our selves are just going to get better, we know nothing at young age and maybe that's why make us gorgeous so we have something, we get better with time and maybe even more sexy and beautiful, we just have to feel that and others will see.

We should never worry if ever we get old because it is part of our life.Looking young or old is a matter of choice of a person base on his or her life style and how they take good care of their self.

Maybe she has issues with her appearance. Or maybe her ego was badly damaged when she got divorced. As for me, I don't fear physical aging. What I fear is aging and not being able to accomplish something in life. That thought scares me the most.

I used to fear old before. But now I think everything openly.I donot worry about that any more.I am not old enough, but I am approaching 30, and I dont have a boyfriend. But I donot care and I donot worry about everything.I will live on my own. I have a roomate in the colleage who is worrying about getting old very much. When we have meeting with other guys, she usually pays attention to there age.If there are many people younger than her, she will be negative and gloomy.I also persuade her that everyone will have the process, the young guys just havenot experienced what we did before.Everyone will get old, but as we grow old, we learn a lot from the life.

I fear aging for two reasons. 1) Health conditions related to aging and 2) Knowing my time with my children is short and that I may not live to see their children. Yes, it is possible we can go at any time and my second reason could come to fruition sooner than old age may take me but that is part of life, just like aging. Loss of beauty is certainly not something I look forward to but it isn't something I fear although I do have friends that have concerns about it. In my mind I will grow old gracefully =)

I do not have the same fears.I believe one ought to do activities which are suitable with one's age.As we grow older we should cut out those activities which only suit the young. But we should exercise regularly and work hard to keep our physique and mental faculties alert.Otherwise we shall start deteriorating. We should be young at heart. But not be so conscious like your friend who believes she should be young and beautiful forever.

By growing age he will lose his fairness and the glow in his face and also he will start suffering physical disabilities but everyone will get older and suffer from this disabilities.... also everyone will die one day and also I don't want to live here forever I will live until god want's me to live in this world....

No, I don't fear aging. My only fear when I grow old is when God calls me and I have to leave my family behind. I am in my late 30s but I don't feel that old and I don't have any fear of growing old. When I age, I want to age gracefully. I may not be able to do all the things that I want but I still want to do some of the things that I enjoy doing like brisk walking early in the morning, gardening, reading books and enjoying the company of my daughters and husband. My mirror is my husband and as long as he tells me that I don't look fat nor thin and that I am beautiful in his eyes, that is all that matters to me. Thank you for reading this post!

Aging is a natural process where one to be ready. One should not even be afraid of it because right from the time we were born, aging process has already started. I have many fears but not of aging. I welcome it whole-heartedly so that I will grow old graciously. I don't like to become an old person with an old-made attitudes.:-D Getting bigger and wider are just but part of aging because of the slow metabolism but we can remedy that by controlling our diet and do some exercise.

Like you i don't want to grow old with an old attitude. If there's one thing that i can make young forever, it would be my heart. I am very young at heart and i'm enjoying life in its simple form.
