Do you think video games can be helpful/harmfull?

When ever I see a violent video game in the new ie.GTA they always talk about how the game can only teach kids how to kill, steal, drive like a maniac and other terrible things while I sit there and watch I always try and think of good things video games have taught me such as patients, which was gained after constantly failing missions in video games, without games I don't think I would be as patient as I am now. So what I want to know is what do you think on this subject?
