Why are movies so mediocre nowadays?

Honestly, I see no originality! Perhaps the reason for this is that it's all been done to death, but I really don't think humanity has lost its ability to think just yet. Another reason is probably because film makers focus only on explosions, special effects and other things of this sort. I don't want action all the time, damn it, I want something MEANINGFUL and INSPIRING. I wish there were more recent movies that teach you about the hindrances of life and how to overcome them. And I mean QUALITY movies. So, my question to you is, MyLotters, why are movies so mediocre and just plain uninteresting to watch nowadays?

i think i posted a discussion quite similar to this - pointing out that a lot of movies no longer have originalities. they are no longer of a good make. concepts are almost similar and even the actions, plots and storylines seem copy pasted

I know! Hollywood is so washed up. I would literally kill a man, just to find something like The Shawshank Redemption or Forrest Gump, which was made recently. But nooo, we've got your Avatar, Inception etc. This just plain sucks.
