Usually the degree is awarded as a way of honoring a distinguished person's contributions to a specific field, or to society in general. The university often derives benefits by association with the person in question. This has nothing to do with his academic qualifications. So it is called 'Honorary Doctorate'

I think they are giving it for losing the test series to England. what you have to do with the doctorate it is better to concentrate in cricket analyse your opponents strength and weakness, then every one will praise you. Happy mylotting!...............

Congrats to dhoni for the doctorate. I think he deserves it as he has been the most successful Indian cricket captain in recent times. Some may be critical of this coz they have not performed up to the mark in the recently concluded test series against England.

well it looks like may be this is not a stunt.oh well. but you know,i wonder at the timing. suddenly out of the blue, his captaincy is in question after the whitewash and so is his batting woes. Dhoni deserved it,not because he is a great captain and an outstanding batsmen. because when everything goes against you,its soothing to have something in favor of you. or may be the university is giving the honourary doctorate because Dhoni let Iam Bell bat? who knows.not many captains did this.must be on the humanitarian "grounds".lol

At first congrates to Dhoni and Team India for this doctorate. I think Dhoni deserved it as India won T20 and ODI world cup under his captaincy. He is a talented and aggressive captain. He knows how to lead a team under pressure. Its really a good decision from University and players will be more interested to play and lead.

You are right about his achievements but still I have some reservations about this honorary doctorate for Dhoni

Congratulation to Mr.Dhoni. He deserves it. I have nothing against Dhoni but have some doubts over the University. Are they doing it for publicity? The reason i am asking is because my people in India have not heard about this university and have not got any related news. If we are talking about winning the world cup win...why didn't the university have a history or anything related to cricket before this?
