Celebrities, not Role Models, and the concept of beauty

Looking at miscellaneous magazines, I was worried about the amount of clothes most celebrities were wearing - or more, how much they weren't. Now, most female celebrities are about wearing as least clothes as they can, and the male ones just swear too much. I didn't feel that was very healthy for younger people. What do you think? Eventually, any 'good' or 'juvenile' celbrities (Linsey Lohan, Miley Cyrus, etc.) eventually turn 'bad'. Why isn't it possible for celebrities to stay fully clothed and be a good role model? I personally would respect one of those than a woman that sells herself. What about you? What do you think of the popularity of those outrageous woman? Hardly 'ladies' I must say. Incidentally, I also saw Emma Watson together, who was fully clothed, and she was still a sight, more so than those other celebrities. Now how many celebrities like that do you see?

I don't see celebrities as role models, I don't know why but I only see them as someone we admire because of their talents and not as a role model. Their lives maybe the same as ordinary people like us only they can afford things we can't and they are famous thats it. Young actresses and even young actors really are not a good examples for kids and teenagers today. its not only the clothes but the way they living. I will probably admire them more if they choose education more than earning big money and loses your shining glory in the end. Here in my country, i admire celebrities whose chooses to finish a degree while still active in show business.

What people don't realise is that we might not think of them as role models, but our kids do. (Not that I personally have any kids. Yet. I hope.) We have to somehow fix that, and how, I don't know. We just have to.

Well, from my point of view, that is not entirely those celebrities fault who wants to be half naked most of the time. They have to cater our taste, and our likes all together. In our mundane world, those viewers most likely to watch sexy celebrities in the big screen, that is our filthy mind at work. And that is why we spend money on those magazines too. Partly our fault at work.

Yep. It's like an interdependent thing; we encourage them, they encourage us. We have to break that, and the society has to say 'No More!' because we don't want the kids exposed. We have to tell them that. And the only way we'll do that is by exploiting our power as a consumer.

I agree with you. I think that when celebrities get to their peak of famousness, they think that they are too good for their own sake and they act it too. I don't like the 'juvenile' celebrities exactly for that reason. For example, Justin Beiber is only 17 or 18 and already owns a 187,000 Ferari! What the hell! If he's too young to take care of himself, he doesn't need that expensive of a car. And I do believe that I read yesterday that he crashed it. I think that they need a reality check and need to be taught how to look out in public.

The problem is that young celebrities don't know how to be responsible, and when you have so much exposure, you are almost required to be responsible. And Bieber crashed a car? Another example of people having trouble with responsiblity.

I think the issue that most of these celebreties are facing is how to move their careers forward. There are rarely "fully" clothed clean-from-scandal super role model actors or actresses who succeed in Hollywood or any other showbiz community in any country. A scandal creates a buzz for their names. Surely, these actors and actresses are talented but how will you notice their talent if you don't create a name for them. Most of the people who wants to act surely has the level of talent that could succeed but how they did it is ertirely dependent on the PR. There's a saying in the showbiz community that a positive or negative publicity is good publicity. This is where the culture is rooted, can it be stopped? I don't think so since Rihanna and Chris Brown's "leaked" naked photos and Britney's negative review just helped them jump start their career and sold millions of album worldwide. Now that's PR.

It might be good for their personal gain, but what of the good of society? Oh boy, what am I saying? What celebrity is going to think about that? Really? Celebrities should be frowned upon on scandals, not amplified or glorified.

I think because no one is ever really ready for fame. They have to deal with constant pressures from the media, from their peers and the public. It all boils down to the values that they have and their convictions, I guess, for them to be able to stay true and not be swayed by what they think is "cool". Maybe that's why many of those celebrities who grew up in the limelight at some point in their lives go through dark phases. But you know, the public only sees what the media projects. We don't even know half of the things they go through.

Yeah, I guess. But think of the thing they *do* show, like the MTVs and stuff. I'm sure they choose to show that, or else they wouldn't do them right? I'm more protesting against those.

celebrities are the way they are because that's all part of the job - selling themselves, stamping their presence, advocating, making a fuss, finding a voice, wanting people like you and i to talk about them and how fully clothed/bare they are in public. they are outrageous, and sadly, a lot of people find them interesting- even making a living out of celebrities lives off camera. ridiculous.

The celebrities that live in front of the camera is an irresponsible celebrity, and they have a social problem. I think the society takes too much interest, and that's a problem.
