What makes people respond to a discussion on mylot?

I often wondered this. Because i see interesting discussions with 0 answers and regular, everyday discussions with literally hundreds of replies. So what do you think makes people be interested in a discussion you start? Are common subject easier to approach and get more answers? Is it out of commodity (not to say laziness :P ) that some discussions remain unanswered? Or is it that if a discussion is targeted on something very specific it "rejects" most users as they feel it being addressed to a certain crowd? What do you , myloters think? Do you have any unanswered discussions? And why do you think they remained that way?

I personally respond to any discussion for which I am interested in. I really do not have any rhythm or reason, as to when and which, as it is depending on my mood and or the topic while I am logged in. I can say that when members do start discussions, if the discussion starter does not comment back, eventually members do remember this and stop responding to discussions of the discussion starter. A lot of members do research and or apply very helpful information to the topic and if a discussion starter does not come back to comment back several members can't help but wonder if their response was read. I have seen this happen so many times that members do not like speaking by themselves. A discussion is when one or more people discuss and placing a response with no interaction from the discussion starter is really not a discussion. I do not start many discussions but when I do respond to each and every member who responds to them. This has helped me here with time and do get anywhere between 50 - 100 responses on each and every discussion I have started to date. I do not have an topics without responses. As for why some go unanswered can be the reason I listed above and or perhaps members were not able to place useful and helpful responses. The other thing that I was told when I first started here is that if we respond to others discussions actively that members will remember us and upon seeing our discussions they will respond as well.

Hello, henki :) If you started a discussion it means it was interesting enough for you :p So what are the odds that out of the millions of ,myloters you're the only one passionate about those things? This question really puzzles me!

That's my experience too. I have asked some questions I really wanted input and I learned quite a lot from the answers.

I think the discussions that get responded to the most are the news ones that are about today and then of course i think the ones that the intersts are well pupulated through the mylot community. Such as life, mylot, sleeping, enjoy life and so many more. Those are the discussions that will get out there and have responses to. Now i do have some unanswered discussions in my unresolved tab here on mylot, im not sure why no one responded to them but some are three years old and im sure they will sit there for a very long time and not sure when mylot will take them out of the mylot community but there do annoy me everytime i see them in there but i guess they will always be in there but i really dont know. At the time i thought they were really good discussions to start but then i guess only to me as no one ever responded to them. Goodluck in Mylot today and have a great day.

Hello, lologirl! Yeah, i know what you mean about discussions that seemed to be very good to start and then they got no response. I see that happening a lot to many people here and it's a shame. I mean, yeah, everyone sleeps but is it such an interesting subject of discussion, really? :)) It might sound bad to say this, but it think, like in all other matters in life most people prefer not to bother too much and take the easy way out. It's easier to right a few words about a thing you do daily (like sleep for example since you mentioned it), than put out your mind to work and respond to a more challenging discussion. I really hope your discussions will be answered :) Good luck!

There are a lot of factors that influence on whether a discussion gets a lot of responses or not. The topic plays a big role since it catches the attention of the reader. The more people who can relate the more response you'll get just like this discussion of yours.

There are some subjects that draw my attention quicker than others. I have started avoiding discussions that can be answered with a yes/no because often they are deleted. I like to start dicussions about things that I need/want info and have found many are generous sharing their knowledge

That's a very practical approach of you, stary. I really like it. Thank you for bringing such a fresh point of view on this. Most of the times i start a discussion t o find people with the same interests as me and share our impressions, but i don't think i started a discussion because i wanted to obtain a certain info. Interesting way of using mylot :) As for the yes/no discussions/answers, i don't bother with them either not because they'll be deleted, but rather because something that can be answered like that makes interaction with the others involved very hard.

That's an interesting question... I think it's hard to tell though, I think a lot of myLotters look for discussions on which they can make a useful respond ( at least that's what I tend/try to do ). So that's one of the reasons that some of the usual, daily topics get discussed a lot: everyone's got something to tell about them. The more interesting topics may get a lot of responds occassionally, but some may not because they either aren't searched for or the people who find them do not know what to respond to them. I think these factors play a role in whether a topic gets discussed a lot ( with a lot of responds ) or not. But still way to find out ;).

Hello, webcodez! I see you're pretty new here so , first of all welcome. I have to say that for a new myloter you respond very well to discussions and keep "in line" with the guidelines :P Congratz for that. You hit an interesting point here. Popularity is important when it comes to a topic, but what makes it popular after all? If it's a common subject that people can better relate to? Or f it's a trend started by tv, internet, etc?? Good luck with your posting

I think people are more likely to respond to discussions they can relate too. I think it also depends on the number of friends the person posting the discussion has. If not enough people see the discussion then there wouldn't be many responses to it. I think these are probably a few of the reasons I can think of and I am sure this list is not exhausted.

i think I have 2 or 3 zero discussions but can't remember anymore what those discussions were all about. At any rate I can't really speak for others so I can only respond on the basis of my own experience. As for me I respond to a discussion because of just one reason and the reason being that discussion is interesting to me and I feel I can give valuable response to it. If there are some interesting discussions with zero responses then I'd say maybe they were posted at a wrong time. Wrong times means, those who could be interested to the topic may be either offline or maybe too loaded with many interesting discussion so they were unable to attend to all. I don't know, I could be wrong but that is what I do believe.

i always like to respond only on those discussions in which i am interested and you are right most of the people like to respond only general daily life discussions because they are more easier to respond as well as some times we dont know the topics because they are related to some particular country.

Hello Reyachan, I always reply to the discussion which i feel interesting i never see whose discussion is it. I feel the discussions related to daily life issues attract me more as i find solutions for my problems also many a times. It happened to me in the starting as one of my discussion remained unresponded as no one respond to it. I always check NO RESPONSE tab and try to answer discussions which i find interesting the intent is we should try not leave any discussion having ZERO response as it hurts when it don't get a single response.

I think discussion get respond or not depend on three thing: 1. Heading topic (Title). When we want to respond particular discussion, we must see their heading topic first right ...? 2. Content. What you write and how you write are important. Sometimes we need to post stupid idea to get responds. For example, discussion about why men like using make-up. Sound stupid right .... but a lot of lotters like this and tend to respond. 3. Friends. 80% of lotters open their notification on friend discussion. These will increase our chance to get responds What do think about this ....

hi:) for me I respond to discussions that I could relate or at least understand, I can't reply to discussions about business and government issues because I don't know how to respond to that, but maybe when I matured I'll be responding to that kind also. usually I noticed mylotters respond more to topic about life and love. G'day friend!

well im not trying to sound like a greedy money hog but i know they only reason i respond to discussions on mylot is so i can get paid. i have alot going on in my life right now and need so extra money. i always try to respond to the discussions that i can relate to and make a good post on so i get paid well. but i am always happy to offer my advise to anyone that needs help or a suggestion. i try to stay away from the controversial matters or anything that i feel too strongly about because knowing me i will end up saying something i shouldnt and getting kicked off mylot haha
