Hurricanes should be named after women not men

Well I am disappointed they started using men's names for hurricanes. I don't know if it was the feminist influence or what, but I think it is more appropriate to name them with womens names. A man hurricane just doesn't seem right to me and I wonder if anyone agrees with me..They started using mens names in the late 70's ...but for over 20 years just used female names. They should have left it alone....in my opinion

When you are in a hurricane, you don't care what it's name is - you just want the f*cker to go away fast! Names are given after the cleaning up. There are often a few f*ckers there too!

I agree you wouldn't care but I still think it's more appropriate to be called a woman..The names are picked in advance. They already have the 2012 names out. If we should be so unlucky as to go through all the preselected names, they start with the Greek alphabet..

In the Philippines we use to name typhoons after women until several years ago. They say the main reason is women kept changing their minds like a typhoon changes its course. Until they thought that it's unfair for the women and started to name typhoon after men too.

I applauded them naming them after men as well, and lets consider how many "manly" hurricanes have been very destructive... Andrew, Hugo, Ike just a few off the side of my head...

They were pressured to do so. I don't see why it needed to be both men and women but if others like it then I guess it's a good thing.

I agree with bostonphil. The names have already been picked before hurricane season begins. To me, it doesn't matter whether they use a female's name or a male's name. What should bother us is the fact that hurricanes are strong enough to claim lives.

It is said they are the strongest so maybe you remember them because they make more news? Do you remember Don...that was an early hurricane that didn't amount to a lot.

I like Petersum's response. Those hit by a hurricaine just want it to go away -- male or female. That being said, if the most detructive have historically been named after women, I think we should name them all after men to lessen the destruction.

Maybe those male named hurricanes were after very violent men with the same names. I do not like the idea that a hurricane named after women because not all women have violent tempers.

I was in the Us when hurricane Charlie stroke. It passed a few blocks from where I was. It was not the nicest man in my life. But the, he was gentle as compared to hurricane Katrina (woman´s name). Hurricanes should be named, so that people know which if the one they are talking about. But, what has gender have to do with a hurricane? It´s the same to me. What is it to you?
