Is all music the same?

A lot of people say that nobody in the music industry creates unique music anymore. With all of the achievements and artists out there nowadays it is going to be much harder to create something that NO ONE has ever done before. Therefore, I don't find it a big deal that many artists share a lot of similarities with one another. What do you think? Is all of todays music slowly shifting into one general sound?

Maybe some music have similarities. But I won't take it as the same. It still depends on the writer/composer/lyricist.. etc etc. And the meaning of the song. :)

I get what you're saying. But all music isn't the same. Genres are going to repeat themselves more and more but music is always evolving in general. If you want to listen to some of the newer stuff out there you should open your ears to Man Man (Rabbit Habits, great album), Crystal Castles, Xiu Xiu (Fabulous Muscles), Phantogram, or Mogwai. A lot of people only know what's on the radio or just wide known bands or artists. There is a lot of music being created everyday that is amazing and unique.

Yes and it is because the suits are making sure of it. back in the day , there were producers that owned their own label. And these producers were bold enough to follow their gut feelings. These days the music labels are owned by suits who have no passion for music. They just worry about the bottom line. So they go for the safest bet! The problem is people do get bored with the same old thing!

Every generation has its own sound. So the music in that generation may not really differ much from each other. Personally, I don't think that music today is shifting into one general sound. There are a lot of artists with their own styles and sounds. I suppose it is a little difficult to look up the different artistic tastes as only the popular ones would appear.

I don't think so. How can all music be the same? For example, an English song is very likely to sound different from a Hindi song. So, in this sense, how can all music be the same?

You are describing mainstream music, that is, rap, hip-hop, etc. Rap and hip-hop are VERY easy to produce, some artists have said so themselves. If you want unique music, you should look for indie. These are people who put passion and soul into their music, which makes it different.

All music is definitely not the same. There are differences in music genres. I think composing music you can always create new pitches with variations. Using the technology you can make small nuances in the tune and the rhythm can differ continuously.
