Buddy Jewel won the 1st season of the Next Nashville Star and then I never heard much about him again. You can still watch his videos on cmt.com. I thought he was talented but he never took off like Carrie Underwood. I voted for him. I hope he got the career he was looking for even if it was short-lived. http://www.cmt.com/videos/buddy-jewell/26272/help-pour-out-the-rain-laceys-song.jhtml?id=1587205

I liked Buddy Jewel. I'm wondering the same thing! Help Pour Out the Rain was obviously a big hit for him, but I also liked Sweet Southern Comfort and Any Other Woman, plus he had a few more good ones that I can't really think of right now. I'm not sure why Carrie Underwood experienced such success yet someone like Buddy Jewel did not have it on the same level. Country for country, within that genre, Buddy Jewel is exponentially more talented than Underwood. But I guess people want that pop appeal these days. In the 1980s, when George Strait and Alan Jackson and a few other pure country singers were the standard, Jewel would have been famous and Underwood would have been second fiddle to women like Wynonna and Tanya Tucker. But this is the age we live in. Good luck to Jewel! I'm sure he's still touring and is making great money. Out of sight doesn't necessary mean out of mind in the music industry. Pearl Jam have been off the grid since the release of their first studio album, yet they're still a powerhouse rock band with a tremendous following.
