Be an Exchange Student or not?

I am interested in becoming an exchange student but I need to think about it more to make sure I don't regret it. I would like some tips and tricks for anything but especially on Rotary interviews I heard they are the most difficult to pass. How much it costed you to in total I heard it's $12000 and upwards? If that the case it is really expensive. I would also like to talk to returning students from Taiwan as I hope to go there.
