Last week, my co-worker is complaining because our officemate sent a text which is all capitalized. The former said, it quite insulting. Do you mind about such stuff?

I have to agree with Kry. Some people aren't literate and don't know that it could be offensive and rude. I wouldn't mind if that was the case. However if someone was intentionally doing it just to get under my skin then it might bother me but I would just ignore them and their ignorance.

Yes, I do mind. All caps means shouting. I would tell the other person, she probably wasn't aware of it. And yes, I would use all caps on one word for emphasis, it's okay. Have a nice day lingaypaculdar.

I don't really mind to be honest. It does show enthusiasm or a bit more emphasis but I don't really mind hehe.

Using capital letters throughout is very rude. I guess that's why your co-worker was angry. Personally, I don't mind people using capital letters thru'out an email, etc. I hv a French teacher who always uses capital letters during his lessons. He is a very shy and quiet guy. If you know him, you will know that he's not a rude person and that he doesn't use capital letters deliberately to offend people. So, maybe that person you mentioned is like my French teacher?

Hi, it depends upon the situations. If the person who texts me with big letter something different action towards me before txt i will wonder and why i will think maybe insulting or angry at and just do it in txt. But if just hurrying, or the eye can't see small letter, it is okay for me.So it depends. i will be insulted if there is purpose why they do it in that way.

Hi lingaypaculdar, anyway it's easier for me to read text in lower case than that is all capitalized, though I still would read them as well. But it's not welcome Here at myLot it's against the discussion guideline if post is written in all-caps. I would like one to text in small letter if the person still would like to keep in touch via text often. Happy posting

I know this can be quite a trivial issue to some people, but I for one HATE the act of capitalizing every letter in a text. One word is alright but a whole text or paragraph is too much! I think most other responses already mentioned this, but I'm repeating them again: capitalized text can be hard to read and using them can imply that one is "shouting" (which is then considered rude). I also don't think not realizing the caps lock button is activated is an excuse; everyone should be checking what they type and what comes up on their screen before actually posting them. Hmm, I'm tough on those people, aren't I?

Actually, yes, it is :). It is one of the Netiquette (internet etiquette) that I need to follow. On my academic forum, I am being prohibited to use all caps letters as it can be considered like "shouting" on the "real world". And myLot also give some concerns about this issue. That's why they are writing this on the guidelines about we aren't allowed to: - Use all-caps or excessive punctuation. http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx

No, I don't mind that. Not everyone considers that capitalized texts are rude. Some people don't know that typing everything in caps to be considered as rude to others. They're probably unaware of that. But in general, I wouldn't mind that and I would tell them that it can be considered rude typing everything in capitals to others.

i do. it would be uncomfortable receiving those text. i hate receiving text messages that are all in caps it's like i am being reprimanded or insulted depending on the text that i would be receiving. because i hated that.. my phone input is programmed in the lower case. i do avoid texting in capital letters since i feel bad about it and i know that it goes the same to the person who would be receiving my text in capital letters. i think it's more polite if it's in lower case. actually i would just capitalize letters when addressing to people or place and other stuffs that are to be capitalized.
