losing self esteem on writing on paper

my wife and i attended a seminar regarding physical therapy. we wanted to hear what the speakers would teach us specially me because my mother is half body paralyzed for four years now. at the end of the program they gave us all a pen and a paper to put few words about how we felt about the seminar. then while i was busy writing i glance at my wife and she was just staring at the paper. she said it is hard to write something hen you are already used to spelling check. i smiled at her and said, baby this is not a book report okay. it is also said on the paper that it is okay not to put your name. they only wanted a reaction. but i just wonder is there also someone out there who lost their self esteem to wrote on paper because of thinking that they might misspell something.

I think I have, or at least I am loosing it. Every time I have to write something on paper, it starts out fine, but after a few minutes, it gets all sloppy. Like my hand is getting lazy. I think working on computers have changed every thing when it comes to physical writing on paper. I don't think it's self esteem, I think it is just plain lack thereof.

har har har your reason is correct some people gets lazy already specially if they do almost everything on the pc and do it everyday. i still do use a paper and pen specially at work or sometimes pen and white board. but i guess with my wife she got a little bit conscious if she misspell a word. thanks a lot for the response.

You're welcome. I think we all get a little self conscious about our spelling. But like I say, nobody's perfect. We are all human and we do make mistakes, especially spelling mistakes.

Hi! As I was reading your post, I thought this was going to be something sad about your mother or something about being paralyzed and all. I guess I can understand your wife for feeling hesitant to write on the paper. Someone will really feel awkward in that situation. She has been used to an automatic spell check so I guess the moment she's writing without the auto spell check, she felt something was missing which might make her to commit a mistake. ^^ I have not experienced that though. When I type, I always make sure that I type the right spelling. I don't rely on the auto spell check. I always make it a point to know the right spelling and grammar. I am very particular about my spelling so I don't let auto spell check to correct me.

har har har... my mother is still the same. sad to say that she gave up on her self already. for us her kids what ever she wants we give we no longer want to contradict what she wants for it will just give more stress to her. if she wants something as long as it will not hurt her we give it to her.... but that is not the topic of this post har har har. after being silly my wife still wrote down what she thought of the seminar and still put her name. i dont know what was on the paper but i am proud that she did wrote something. whether it is in english or tagalog. thanks a lot for the response.

I wouldn't be so self conscious, after all, everyone misspell word in their sentences, no one is perfect in spelling especially those words that are more than four letters. Even during an examination in the classroom, you will still misspell after lengthy hours of preparation yesterday night burning the midnight oil.

true. i too is not self conscious about this matter. well i misspelled it, so i misspelled it. i am not here for a spelling bee or spelling quiz. they ask my comment and opinion regarding the seminar then i say something about it. they want to grow more that is why they wanted to know what do you think about the seminar so i guess you have to say what you want to say. i told my wife to write it in our own language the Filipino language if she is not that comfortable to write it down in english. thanks a lot for the response.

If I didn't have to put my name..it wouldn't bother me..but if I did..I might be a little worried..lol. I think there are more people out there than we realize that misspell stuff if they don't have their spell check. It is easy to do. Take care.

that is exactly the point why they say it is okay not to put your name. for some wanted to suggest something and just wanted to be remain anonymous. for me it is okay if i misspell some words, as long as the thought of what i want to say is still there. i guess they did not let you comment to criticize you but to hear what you want to say. thanks a lot for the response.

I can imagine that some people no longer prefer to write and or are a bit shy to on paper. With the aid of so much technology today the convenience is swaying many to no longer physically write on paper. Many are getting dependent with spell check and or word grammar checkers. I am old school and still enjoy writing with pen and paper and in fact I do enjoy it as I find that while writing on paper, I can see my true emotions more so then I can when typing them. I think I emphasize more spelling and grammar when typing then when I use a pen to jot down my feelings. Somehow while writing with a pen and paper my emotions flow more.

she used to write a lot on paper when she was still single. since she gave birth and she needs to be productive at home and with her little business she does a lot of putting her words on paper on the pc. i know she will get her confidence back again all she needs to do is to trust herself. i dont care if a misspell some words, but if the sense of what you are talking about is still there then there is nothing to be afraid of. after all we are only going to write a comment we are not going to make a book.. har har har thanks a lot for the response my friend.

oh i know how you feel it is not your fault people are so judgemental and will automatically think you are stupid just because you spell a word wrong its terrable to be judged that way but then again i dont think it is a good thing to rely on the computers spell check for everything i think people should be able to stand on their own without computers but i also get so frustrated and my self esteem goes right out the window when i try to write a paper

true that there are a lot of judgmental people that always thinks they are so great and sees you to be stupid if you can not spell it right. i dont care what other people think. if i will always live a life base on what other people will think then i will not going to be me. i will be living in a way on what other people wants me to be. i told my wife it is okay if she misspells some words, this is not a book report, they just want to see what you learn on the seminar. thanks a lot for the response.

You shouldn't lose your self esteem at any time. you need to find interesting work and write as per your likes. Dont lose hope at any time.
