The #occupy protests in the US

We here in Europe have some trouble figuring out what is going on with the #occupy protests in the US. What exactly is going on where, if anything? When there are protests in Iran, we hear so much about it, but now, it sometimes sounds as if hundreds of people are being arrested in these protests, but it is hard to find information about it, so does that mean that not much is going on, or is there a media blackout? And if such protests are going on, who are the protester and what do they want, what do they think they will accomplish? Is it just angry people who thought they could borrow and borrow and borrow on their credit cards and now are unhappy because they are in debt and are blaming their debts on the banks and big corporations? Is it people who have lost their homes because of mortgages banks should never have sold to them? I'd like to hear, please, so thanks in advance.

I am in India and heard about this new mode of demonstration.I think so many people in USA think that corporate greed exploits almost funds of public revenue and have great influence in decision taking of politicians and Government. This demonstrations just started few weeks ago by a few students inspired from the "Arab spring" demonstrations for democracy and is getting momentum with the participation of various sections of the people. On 1st October more 700 got arrested .Their isn't proper leadership behind this which may brink problems on development. There are demonstrations in various parts of USA in solidarity to the Occupy Wall Street Demonstrations showing growth of problems to the administration.

Hi Mohkanari, yes, that's more or less what I read on the CNN site, but CNN reporting on the events has been pretty limited. When there were riots here in the UK, with initially similar numbers of people arrested (is that true, that 700 were arrested), the entire world seemed to be aware of it.
