I have been fostering dogs and I have had alot of problems house training the little guys. They are mange dogs and the meds they are on make them a little dumb. They have been peeing every where. I decided to give them limited space to see if that controls it. I have to say so far it has worked it has only been a couple of days but no accidents that is the main point. They are on limited water and certain feeding times. I would love to know what others think so give me your ideas and lets make this easier on all of us.

hi ther. i have had dogs in my life always. i understand your problem, and there is only realy one way of houe training you pups. more exersise, outside activitys. peaple say as with kids and dogs is disagree with bad behavour and reward the good. i find most dogs want to toilet nearby or where others have been, so maybe try taking the pup out with an older dog, wen it goes it will encorage the pup to go also, then of corse if it goes then big rewards.you must make sure the reward comes on time, ie the second he finishes. pleanty of walks in places other dogs go will help.paitence and consistancy is the key to any kind of training, i dont agree with only giving water at certain times, how would you feel if you had to wait for sum1 to get you a drink wen your thursty, water should be available to dogs at all times, just simply watch the pup, after it has a drinktake him out, after he hes eaten take him out, and after he has a sleep take him out. also make sure you are cleaning your floor where dog has dun his buissnes thourly, use a strong cleaner, dogs realy dont like to pee on clean floors, but if the smell of preveous pee is there that will incorage them to go there.good luck. and good for you for fostering, if only there was more people like you around!

Hello Freeride and welcome to myLot. I am not sure if I understood your problem. You said "little guys" so I suppose they are puppies. If so, you should know that puppies, like small children, aren't able to control their bladder for long. They say a puppy can hold himself for as many hours as his age in months. This means you shouldn't expect a three months puppy to keep his place clean for more than three hours. If you limited their space, make sure you take them off for doing their duties more often, like every two hours. Take them to the place they should pee and stay with them there for a few minutes until they do their duties. Also keep in mind that puppies usually pee/poo a few minutes after they wake up and also a few minutes after they eat. Certain feeding times is a must but you shouldn't limit their water, especially if you feed them dry food.
