What if You Stepped in Dog Doo?

I had a long day yesterday. After a detailed conference call, I walked out my back door to collect my thoughts and get a breath of fresh air. I stepped right into dog doo from a neighbor who does not keep the dog on a leash. Needless to say, I was not happy. She tried to joke about it and said stepping in dog doo is good luck. I was not laughing and disagreed. To make a long story short, the neighbor cleaned up the area and my shoe. I also said the dog should be walked or kept on a leash. I love our four-legged friends and family members as much as the next person. However, I think for the safety of the pup and consideration for your neighbors, dogs should be leashed at all times. There are certain dog parks and dog runs that make it possible for a dog to run free in a contained area. If you want the dog to have freedom, I think that's the way to go. What would you do if you stepped in dog doo right outside your door? How do you feel about walking dogs and keeping them on a leash?

I personally think dogs should be kept on a leash when they're taken outside of their home. It keeps the dog safe as well as other people and animals safe if the dog ever decides to go after anything. And if you're going to walk your dog through other peoples' yards, at least pick up the poop, it's rude to just leave it in their yard. My dogs are always kept on leashes when they go out of our house or yard. It's just safer that way because I would be heartbroken if one of them decided to chase after an animal and then get hit by a car or something. The only time I've stepped in it was in my own house. I set one foot into my bathroom before turning on the lights and I stepped right in a pile..in bare feet. I was completely grossed out and hopped in the shower right away and scrubbed my foot. My dog was still a puppy and she had a bad habit of hiding and pooping and I was lucky enough to find it with my barefeet. Yuck!

I completely agree they should be on a leash, it's too dangerous for the dog unless they are in a dog run or park where they cannot get hurt. I've had all kinds of furry family members over the years and it's important to be considerate of others. I would never let my dogs poop in someone else's yard, it's so rude. I remember once, years ago, I lived near a park and I kept finding big loads on my front lawn. I finally got up super early one day and discovered it was an old man who lived down the blog. I yelled out the front door, "What are you doing!?" and it never happened again. Yes, the only time before I stepped in dog poo was in my house, as a child. It was a brand new puppy waited for me to wake up on Christmas - needless to say, I knew my present before I even got to the tree.

Stepping into dog doo outside my door is highly unlikely. I am glad to say that most people in the Netherlands carry a small plastic bag and clean after their dog has done its business. I partly agree when you say that dogs should be leashed at all times. In built-up areas, yes, but outside cities they could run freely about, unless this is forbidden by law.

Most people in our neighborhood also carry a bag and clean up after their dogs. I am fine with that. Leaving it behind is dirty and disgusting. I do agree if you live on a farm or acreage, your animals should be able to roam freely. In built-up areas, it is dangerous and inconsiderate. However, years ago, my dog ran out the door when a guest opened it without my permission. We lived on a farm but it faced a busy road (it was a long way to the road but dogs can be fast). The dog was killed instantly by a speeding pickup truck. I still remember that day and it is impressed on my memory that dogs need constant attention and diligence. After that, I kept the screen door locked at all times so that no animals could run out due to thoughtless and presumptuous visitors.

That was a really bad experience, both for you and the driver. I now understand now why you keep your dog leashed and would others to do the same.

I have stepped in dog doo doo before and it sucks. I think that if you are going to walk your dog then you are responsible for picking up any mess it leaves behind. That is just plain rude to let it do its business on your neighbors lawn and then don't even bother to pick it up. I've never heard about it being good luck though. How is that supposed to be good luck, smelling like crap and tracking it back inside your house and everywhere you go? Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Honestly, it really does suck. It is sooo rude to leave crap behind, like someone else should clean up after you and your dog. I totally agree, there is no good luck about smelling like crap and tracking it around everywhere you go. It's just a poor excuse for bad behavior. She mentioned being sick and unable to do it. I am also on antibiotics right now and it's not my dog to clean up after. Won't join that pity party! Thanks for letting me vent again - glad you agree. Have a good day and happy MyLotting to you, too :)

I think that lots of people who have dogs where i live are really good, as they always clean up behind their dogs.I think that a few people tend not to clean up behind their dogs.I have in the past shouted over to people, telling them to pick their dogs mess up.A lot of people also look to see if there are people on the street and if the street is empty they will walk off and leave the dogs mess there. My friend has dogs and they clean up in their garden, as well as out side where the dogs go, as soon as the dog has done its toilet. There is no excuses for owners of dogs not to clean up behind them.

Good for you for shouting at people who attempt to leave the dog mess behind. It is unsanitary and inconsiderate. I also dislike visiting people who let their dogs crap all over the yard and never clean it up. My friend's neighbor does this and the smell wafts over to her yard on a breezy day. It is so gross and there is no excuse for it. If you cannot properly take care of a dog, you should not have one.

My best friend once stepped in dog doo on her way out and when she came back she stepped in the same dog doo, but the other foot. If the good luck talking does make sense, she may be the luckiest person I have ever met. And she was very angry at that moment, even herself is a dog keeper too. People should be blamed for, not the pup. And I think a real dog lover will never let their dogs be a bother to others.

Wow, your friend did it twice in one day - that is rare! I do agree a real dog lover doesn't let their furry family member be a bother to others - they would not want people to dislike the dog or take it out on the dog - after all, it is the owner who is in control, the dog is just doing what comes naturally.

I don't have problems with dogs walking around without leash, because usually when they do, is because they are well behavior dogs. I do have problem when the owners don't clean the dog doo. Here where I live, you are obligated to walk with a plastic bag to collect the dog doo. Of course, it's not everyone who do that, but most of the persons are polite enough to do that.

I have a friend who used to train guide dogs for the blind. They were extremely smart and well-trained. Her pets were, too, and would never stray, even if unleashed. It is the rule here to collect the dog doo, I think some folks try to get out of it by hiding it on someone's lawn - not mine!
