SEEK employment or CREATE employment...

What could be the best goal after college? To seek an employment or to create employment... It is more convenient to seek employment, you have nothing at risk and just do what is required with you, you may have a lasting profession. But when you reach my age, you have a family of your own and there are lots of things that you have more important thing to do but have no time, you will look back and reflect if your decision after college is right. I guess being an enterpreneur should start during college days. Instead of spending your money for clothing, you should saved it, buy a few merchandise and sell it. I've seen a lot of young enterprenuer who started their business with their hobbies and soon become successful. Parents also plays a vital role in opening the minds of youth, by supporting them and encouraging to excel in what they are doing. I was thought marketing in a very young age, during my elementary days I used to bring foods which are sold in my mother's store to school and sell it to my classmates. We've done odd business with my friends by investing a day's allowance to sell cigarettes in their market stall. The little amount earned are used to buy little things like handkerchief and the likes. But when I reached college, I was overwhelmed with the thinking that I will be successful employee after I finish it. I lost my interest with business. Of course, I think I am successful as an employee considering I got a good salary grade which is also a permanent job. But things are not good as it was used to be. I am not happy anymore with the people I am working with. Now I am having a regret, I should have pursue with what my mother taught me not with what the school had promised me.

Hello r3jcorp. First of all, thank you for your meaningful discussion. There are a lot of people working as employees as well as employers, either seeking employment or creating employment. Employment may vary based on individuals. I know quite a few people and the majority of them like me seek employment though there are also quite a few who create employment. A person with a good business mind as well as a person interested in doing what he or she is interested in may well use the opportunity of doing a good business for as much profit as s/he can, but not one without a business mind. I have quite a few students who are successful in their own business and most of them are doing well. I also have two colleagues who have worked with me for many years, but later chose to do their own clothes business in the capital city of our province. They desired to make more money by doing this business, but failed and lost money. Now they are back to school as my colleagues again. From them I got to know that doing a good business is not an easy thing. Everything considered, they think it is still better to seek employment instead of creating employment. As to me, I also have this idea of creating a business of my own, but I am worried about the risk I will have to face and challenge as I have a family of my own and have to support my family with my salary. Out of this reason, I give up, but do some part-time job in my spare time for making some more money. I am contented with it and I think that it is suitable for me as the money I earn in my spare time is good. I have been engaged in teaching for long and have never regretted it because I love it and see it as my lifelong career. Thank you again for the topic. Enjoy your life to the fullest!

Thanks for the appreciation. I thought of writing it because I've been thinking of dropping my offline work because my earnings here are not even enough, lack of time for my family and unhappiness in the environment. You are right, it is a tough decision, it is much better if I started doing business before I got my own family. The needs of the children is at high risk especially their education.

That is true. Most college students that are about to graduate are anticipating and very excited to apply a job. If you really want to have a stable and long lasting income, one must indulge into business. And if you will be venturing into a business, you must have the passion to do it. As an employee, if you are passionate enough with your work then you will have an enjoyable employment experience. I hope you will realize what your passion really is - to be an employee or to be the employer. Have a great day!

I think starting a business is a good idea only if you have enough savings. We still have to work until we have enough money as capital since we also can't just apply for a loan without good credentials...

The prospect after college always seems bright and it's up to the graduate to choose their paths. I started working then stop to have my own business which is related to my passion . I admit, it brought me money and some little fame but I miss schools and my students so i went back to teaching. Life is what you make, if you enjoy what you do, you won't have any regrets. Regrets only come when you are not happy with what you have.

Thank you very much for commenting. Do what you feel is right than regret after. Restaurant or food business is a great idea and always profitable. Look for the best site and try to target medium income earner, there are lot of them who are looking for good food at cheaper prices. Then later expand into catering. Goodluck and I'm hoping for your success!

I like to create employment, because it not even give profit to us, it gives jobs to many people. Also, by creating employment, one can utilize his/her talents completely.

I watched a movie a year ago and it had something to do with Harvard I think and something said in that movie I really liked. It was something like this... We dont teach our students to be the best in a business, we teach them how to create new business. And from what I have seen I can say it is always better to be your own boss and have a business of your own. If you think about it deeper, you will regret things about starting your own business when you look back in the future but thats life :D You say you dont like your job anymore but think about your family, if you dont have your job what will you do? Besides its never too late to start something on your own. I used to work in a couple of places and decided this dont work for me so I quit and start a small business on my own and now I am happy with what I am doing. follow your dreams man whatever they are!!! :D
