7.50 am. 17th October 2011 -- Chennai -- I am very happy that I could exercise my franchise in the local election conducted. I had to vote for Chennai mayor and also councillor of my constituency. There was no crowd at the polling booth. Polling started at 7.00 am. I went for a walk in the morning, had my bath and I was there at the polling booth at 7.30 am. They verified the name. Representatives from different parties were there. So many names were there for councillor (nearly 30). For mayor also more candidates were there. I was clear about my choice. I went in and pressed the button. geiiiiiiiiiiiiiii... sound came. Then next vote I pressed the button ....geiiiiiiiiiii sound came. People who were there said "you can go". I came out happily. I have done my duty as a citizen of this GREAT democratic nation. Those who are living in areas wherein local elections are conducted today, please go for voting.

Glad to hear that you made a right choice. people power in india has urged other countries too but with a twist. I hope your choice wins. i have relatives in chennai and when I visited them a long time back, I was actually very disappointed with the chlorine water but I love the cheap rates for flowers and fresh vegetables and the lovely city itself. I have visited Sundaram and remember visiting the moor market which was burnt down I think. Are there markets like that? I liked your profile picture- happy man

Surekha: What to do. We have to accept the available lot and from that select one. that is all. I do not have ambition for serving in politics because I cannot serve 24 hours in a day. However thanks for your support. I suggest please exercise your franchise.

You are correct. If we do our duty it will be nice,. However I find less than 50% voted in the chennai city. In the suburbs the attendance is slightly better. Results will come in a few days.

Yes. We are happy to be in our place -- we relish our surroundings and enjoy the company of neighbours - children, elders etc, Elections are held in tamil nadu only for local bodies like corporation, municipality etc, It is not there in A.P. Nice to know you also exercised your voting rights two years ago -- may be for parliamentary elections.

Nice to hear that you were very productive today and did your duty as a citizen for your country. When it is time to vote here I also like going as early as possible, as the later one goes the longer the lines to be able to vote. It is still October 16th here, enjoy your week.

Thanks for posting your first response. I missed voting for assembly elections conducted in April 2011 because I was with my daughter in Indiana. I felt happy when I could exercise my franchise. I am not worried about the result. It was quite easy for me to vote. No queue over there. As day progresses more people will come and there may be waiting time. Yes. I did a productive job as a citizen of my country. Hope you, your daughter and boy friend are fine and you will be busy as usual. I visit occasionally mylot whenever I feel an urge to visit --because I am tied with local work and watching local television programs.

Well, I hope the candidates you've choosen will cover your expectations. I seems that you have elctronical vote system in your country so that the results of the elections will be given promptly. We've had elections on this year. But we will be able to use that electronical system in the next event that is planed in five years still. Anyway I expect your elected authorities make a good job so that the people can live with fairly and happiness.

So you are in Chennai, I can feel the excitement Raviji, while in service almost during all elections I was posted as Presiding officer/observer during elections; i miss that now.. I feel though we cast our votes, the fate is decided by 'money'; the voters are purchased. Please read my PM.

Yes. Sir. This time I found there was less noise and less exchange. True that will be done in a deceited manner. Since I missed voting in April assembly electins I thought it fit to vote early. I voted before 8 am itself. This election is important because it is for chennai corporation. Neatness, garbage removal all these are to be done by these guys only.

It really feels great when you know you've contributed to your nation's growth and to know you have done your job and in fact very well done job! You can now relax and wait for the counting and see and hope for your candidates to win and later serve your place with God's grace and guidance.

yes. It is a indirect imeptus for the growth of the country. If everybody does his duty the nation will grow automatically. The people selected by the majority if they do good to their constituency then the country will achieve a considerable growth in all walks of life.

To exercise the right to suffrage is really good. I've never missed one single election to vote for whom i believe is worthy enough to serve the public. I think this right should not be neglected and should be exercised no matter what the out come is. It's better to have chosen someone who didn't win than to never have chosen anybody at all.

That's really great! :) Hope the people you choose are the best and deserved the throne! :) It does really feels great if you vote wisely, no one gives you money to vote for someone, instead you vote because you think that that person deserves it.

I selected the best out of the available lot. I went to the polling booth. I found a list of names. I spent a minute in going through all the names and decided my choice. Then I went inside and voted. it took a very little time. I enjoyed the opportunity given to me to vote.
