I am dreading the next few days here in India and may be abroad too where there will be Indians who will be celebrating Diwali. There will be crackers, crackers everywhere creating such noise pollution that many will fall ill specially the new born kids. Can you suggest a place I can go where I can live in peace till this frenzy is over. Or do you think better sense has prevailed and there will be no noise this year. Am I being too optimistic? Is there no way one can celebrate any occasion for that matter without noise pollution?

I've always thought that celebrations are better to spent with lots of noise. Not just noise though, music and fireworks would be nice. LOL If you're looking for a place where it's nice and quiet, try a cemetery, or a library. Try going back to your school and enter the library and relax there.

Since you love noise so much I feel you will go to the cemetery before me as obviously you are not aware of the health hazards of noise or perhaps you know about it and yet are so addicted to noise that you just cannot live without it!

Festivals are mean to enjoy a lot friend...of course it may cause disturbance to new born baby but We will get Diwali once a year and some people wont get chance to enjoy because of their jobs, busy life's etc..For you my suggestion to be inside home where ever you will be that night....

I do not understand how noise can enhance one's enjoyment. There are so many ways in which a celebration can be kept up. Thanks for asking me confine myself inside - afine way to celebrate Diwali!

Noise pollution is a known factor of declining mental health and stress...and that has been proven, along with the RAW nerves it produces! Anyone with breathing problems, I feel exceptionally sorry for ..too! I live 14 miles across the Ocean, from Vancouver (metro centre) that hosts a huge India population...there is one bluff, with an advantage point to view Vancouver, we can see the fireworks...and HEAR the noise, remember that is 14 miles away, so I can NOT imagine living admist the din! There seems to be something amiss, tho! FIREWORKS and the sale of; are banned in many metropolitan areas of B.C. so where do the "populace" obtain these illegal pollutants to celebrate Diwali...followed by Hallowe'en? I know what is going on....my heart breaks for my animals...and Mother Nature's creatures...they do NOT understand this fierce/scary noise pollution--they tremble with fear! My cat hides, sometimes for days..my dog is in my lap..my Ram (sheep)will NOT leave his little house, so I have to feed him inside! The lovely WILD birds are flocking and flying here, there and everywhere in a huge frenzy! What happens to the lovely birds in your garden? Love your new avatar!

SO, true, your avatar is noiseless...sure hope that they never include sound with avatars...LOL! I am a person, that is NOT good with noise--guess I have lived on this peaceful piece of property too long, and do wonder what I will do when I have to move to a metropolis area! Living here is fine, if one's health is intact, and not challenged...when time and tide take it's toll, we are incredibly challenged to get to any Emergency treatment. Helicopter or Water taxi! And both are; weather permitting! I will have to learn a new tolerance level...or get good earplugs! As you have read, they are supposed to be banned here...but just across the U.S. border they are readily for sale...and are smuggled into Canada! Banned here for both noise pollution, air pollution...and the physical damage that some have done to innocents! Can you find peace...by travelling to a Wildlife refuge..or are their not "refuge's" away from the cities and celebrations! I think I would plan that for my annual vacation!

It is beyond me to think that one can go to any extreme such as illegally importing noise! Actually I shifted from a Metro to a semi rural setting most peaceful indeed. But during this festival none are spared. May be I should buy some ear plugs to tide over this noisy period. Thanks for your suggestion. Imagine noisy avatars!

Hi Allknowing, i think by now you are busy and entertained by the Diwali celebration. I think it is no way for us to be able to escape from this kind of noisy way to celebrate a special occasion. If you are interested to escape, then going to the Polar bear home is the best place to stay away from this kind of noise. Only you will need to wear layer after layer of thick clothes since that area is more colder than our fridge. Hope you have a Happy Diwali celebration with your family and friends.
