Has the bad economy made you do things you never thought you'd have to?

has the bad economy made you get creative and do things you would have never thought you would do to make money? a documentary recently was talking about how people are reverting to doing "adult" entertainment to make money to just get by or make some extra money. some people that had/have great jobs you are now seeing on the weekends at mcdonalds! has the need for money now or in the past ever made you do something you never thought you would lower yourself to do? have you sold possessions you never thought you would part with? lower your standard of living? its desperate times for desperate people. so how low would you go to keep afloat? NOTE: i am in no way saying that any job is a bad thing. i just know that people tend to look down on certain fields because of morals or pride but i personally think you gotta do what you gotta do and sometimes people may think lower of you but as long as you are able to take care of yourself and family and be responsible its none of my business or place to judge

Hi Moonlitmagikchild, actually I think that is a good thing for the country, even though we do not like it much. For too long a time, we have enjoyed life, without giving a thought to people who are working very hard to make life comfortable for us. We never give a thought to the cleaners or fast food restaurant workers or people who are working while we are asleep. This recession kind of makes us awake, and see that we have been living in the air for too long. It makes us humble and learn to save.

I have never looked down at someone doing a job. I don't believe any job is not important. There are jobs I never want to do, but I'd do them to make ends meet. It bugs me when I see people that complain about not being employed, but they refuse to take a job that they deem "lesser" or below them. I'd rather take a job in fast food or a janitor (two jobs I never want to do)then sit home complaining that I don't have a job. Pure laziness. Again, I don't believe fast food or janitor is below me, but its not my idea job. Unfortunately because of health, I'm prevented from doing a lot of manual labor.

I'm glad I've not been really affected by bad economy. Nevertheless if it does, I don't think the bad economy should be a reason to resort to immoral or illegal job. Of course if worse comes to worst there is nothing really wrong with selling possessions and from the money start even a small-scale business in order to survive. Even if I'd work really hard and sweat out just to earn money for as long as it is a decent job I can always do it but I can't ever do a job that will violate my conscience.

I'm speaking on my own point of view and on the basis of what is moral to me. I don't know about the others though. They can do whatever they want to do to earn a living for anyway in the end it is the person who is answerable to his own self.

i think it also has to be considered how different people have different views on what and where the moral boundaries are so one persons unacceptable is another persons standable

with me and many other single moms, i think we learned how to cope and how far we will go many yrs. ago. i know when i was young and had small kids, id even go to churches and food banks and even borrow from friends and bum stuff at times just to make sure my kids ate at least once a day. i remember when i was married to my second husband. what a deadbeat. one day, there was no place i could get food for the kids. i walked to the welfare office and begged a food order, but by the time i got home, it was to late to shop, the store had closed. the kids said, mom i cant sleep. to hungry that husband said, it wont hurt them 1 night. NO, i went to a few neighbors begging and they ate that night. thats how far a good mother will go!! if not even farther.

I guess so. I for one had thought I would never work as an employee ever again. I started a small business but tough times made me close shop. I even had to sell my SUV to buy a small fuel-efficient car. So I guess I went from being a boss to being bossed around :) I have no qualms about it. Life they say has really its ups and downs. We just really need to adapt to whatever situation we're in. Well, in our country, a lot of us have learned to adapt since we've never really had what may be considered a great economy.

I agree...life is so unpredictable and we should adapt with the changes no matter what happen.Sometimes, trials like these can only make us stronger and a better person.I never thought of investing when I still have a steady source of income to be used as a capital. As of now,I'm so open-minded with income-generating ideas outside from a normal working environment and started to think of having my own business.

im glad to see that you are having a good attitude with the adjustment. some people are so angry and their own anger makes it harder on themselves

Most definitely. I was considering signing up for an MLM, but the company sells products that are gimmicks. I tried to sign up for Avon, but realized that the biggest needs now are food, clothing, utilities (gas, electric), communication, and shelter. But Muetti joined one whose products are based on utilities and communication. At first, I was shell-shocked, but that gave me second thoughts on that. So, here I am, working alongside her. But even with that, the economy changed my ways. One of them was coupon clipping. I love the idea of that because I can buy with less money!

I agree wholeheartedly with you, I believe work cannot kill you. So if you need extra money, do the part time job, cooking, baking, working at Mcdonalds, waitressing, If that's what it takes to keep the bills paid anything extra as long as it don't go against my principals in life. One should be independant, also not to depend on other people to take care of you. Do what ever you can to be self sufficient with the help of God.
