Can anyone help me with this external hard drive problem?

I used to have just one hard drive: a seagate half terabyte. I always used that without any glitch for years. Then I bought a new one: a WD 1 terabyte. After using the new one, I was able to use the old one just fine. Then I began to use the new one more. Then came a time when I tried to plug in the old one and it couldn't be recognized by my computer. What happens is I hear the "plugged-in sound" when I plug it but it doesn't appear in "My Computer". It appears in my "Safely Remove Hardware" stop list but nowhere else. Also, my computer freezes when I use the old hard drive. When I click mozilla, my computer or anything else, nothing happens. But when I plug out my drive, everything I clicked appears really fast. I'm really confused now. Any idea how to fix this?

Try to replace the USB cable of your external HDD, Try it also to the other computer so that you can isolate the problem regarding to the detecting of your HDD. Use also diagnostic tools like sea tools.also try the run program to your start menu.Using RUN type the drive letter of the HDD and then hit enter. After hitting the enter the drive letter of your HDD will open.

because the hard disk is big enough power consuming compare other equipment the possibility of connecting cable from the pc to the hard disk is too long and also check the power.
