How much will I need in Singapore?

I am planning to work in Singapore and I may not earn that much. So I was really wondering how much should I earn for me to live decently in the country? I don't need much. I prefer to live simply, however I do need to go out at times for pleasure to relieve the stress. I'm a big fan of good food and so I like trying out different dishes. I do spend a little bit more during special days or occasions only.
For those who lives in or have visited Singapore, please share your thoughts. Is it really expensive like what others would say to live in Singapore or not?

I am also planning to work in Singapore and that also my question. They said it is cheaper to live and work in Singapore together with friends so you can share expenses such as rental, bills, etc. But you should be careful with kind of friends you will be joining to. I have knew some good friends working in there but not really close friends. Hope my luck to work in Singapore will come soon and found a good friend to share expenses there as well so i can save more.
