I have always been a little scared of big freeways and tollways but recently I have forced myself to start working out the Tollways here in Melbournem scary but the time it saved in getting from one end of town to the other has made it all worthwhile but still frightens me, am I alone in being scared of these time saving things.

Yes, they are scary, but they do save a lot of time & therefore a bit of money as well as being better for the environment. It's not actually unreasonable to feel scared of lots of big chunks of metal whizzing past you at high speed which may or may not be going in a more-or-less predictable pattern. We don't have toll roads over here, so it's difficult for me to empathize, but driving around Brisbane on their tollways, motorways, etc was quite nightmare'ish, as well as expensive! I guess I'll have to do it all again come Christmas. One thing I will be making sure of this time is getting a QLD number plate... speeding QLD'ers treat you like a ping-pong ball if you have Victorian number plates on your hire car! My favourite time was when I borrowed my father-in-law's ute for the purpose. My wife & I dressed up in rural attire - hats & all - & everyone there left us alone & we even got a few waves! Interesting how people love their own & have a go at everyone else.

OMG I would have thought Queenslanders would be like that, they are supposed to be so lay back....Its the tunnels that I am really scared of but amazing how when you go through the tunnels they take over your radio station to give out messages and warnimgs, amazing...

Yes, quite a few from Victoria have a "romantic" view of Queenslanders like that - it keeps them coming in a continuous stream of caravans up there. They laugh quietly about Victorians. My mother-in-law showed me a funny diary entry of a Melbourne resident trying to live in QLD & all the difficulties & frustrations they encounter up there - so true too! This has happened to us for years & years now whilst driving up there. They don't have mobile speed cameras, etc, etc like we do here & few fixed ones too - police don't seem interested in busting anyone for speeding, as my wife who has lived there all her life patiently explained to me. The really funny thing is watching QLD'ers get "road rage". Down here, we honk & hop out of the car & verbally abuse the living daylights out of the offending motorist at the very next set of lights or call traffic complaints. Up there, they are really animated & so very funny. They invariably, whilst still seated in their car, with the window already wound down (humidity!), start up with arms flailing everywhere upwards whilst shouting at the windscreen in a suppressed manner, which continues until they start moving again & forget all about it due to the effect of the humidity! Oh those tunnels! They block your mobile phone signals & everything just goes through to message bank. Not that I talk on the mobile whilst driving - I don't even have a working mobile phone - not for the last year or so anyway. Have you been on the newly built Clem Jones Tunnel? They built it underneath the Brissy River! Quite an experience, but it gets expensive, especially if you love it & want to do it again & again. It's much cheaper than going to one of their Theme Parks, though & you don't have to wait in a queue for 45 minutes to get a seven second "thrill"!

About time saving things you are not alone as I was suffering from managing my time these past few weeks or so. It wasn't easy to adjust from all these new "things" to do and new day job.
