When I first upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 (from 10.10), the first thing I noticed is that, my system became painfully ssslllooowwweeerrr. The Classic option was gone, so I installed Gnome 3 only so that I can have access to this option (Gnome Classic No Effects). But still, it is much slower than before, even after upgrading my RAM. Then I tried installing Xubuntu desktop, and it was much faster. Only thing is, Xubuntu desktop sucks in an aesthetic sense. Then I tried logging in again on Gnome Classic and I immediately notice the improvement in speed. I uninstalled Xubuntu desktop, and the improvement is still there. Currently, I'm logged into Ubuntu 2D and the speed is a relief compared to when I first encounter it. The only thing that is still slow is the Software Center which almost takes a minute to open.
