Babak Rafati, a referee from Germany from Iranian descent, was planned to be the referee at the Bundesliga game FC Koln(Cologne)-FSV Mainz. But the game was not played, as the referee hasn't appeared at the stadium. Then the news came from the police, that the referee was in the hospital, as he was found unconscious in his hotel room by his assistants. He tried to commit suicide by cutting his veins. For his luck, he was found in time and his life was saved. He was named four times the worst referee in the Bundesliga and he has been recently taken off the FIFA list, which means that he couldn't blow the whistle in continental or intercontinental competitions. Do you think this has influenced his decision? Can it be the gambling mafia? Please share your views.

We don't know what his reason was to do this gesture. It is not good to judge people, as we never know what is going to happen with us, what type of crazy thoughts will go in our mind. Earlier, I would have said this also, but I understood that the human mind is very strange and does crazy things to people.

That is true, we have no right to take our lives, but there are situations when a person cannot think clear, and makes so stupid things. Wish we never get in a situation when we don't know what we are doing.

It's a shame that the ref. should want to take his own life but I suspect there were many who would have done the job for him. Why FIFA won't allow video on football when it is allowed in rugby, it would take a lot of the miss calls out of the game. When there is big money in a game the judgments must be seen to be right.

The reason is not known, it may or may not have anything to do with his job as a referee. As for video, I don't agree with it, let football be as it is, with mistakes in it. When a player does a mistake, there is no restart button, if a referee does one, there shouldn't be neither. If the refs make human mistakes, it is okay, when they do it by purpose, not even the video will make them change the decision. And there are many situations when even after watching the thing x times, there is not certain what the decision should be. Football is a fluent game, not like rugby, so stopping the game to analyze situation would do lots of harm to it, in my opinion.

Let me put you the situation like this: what if the ball hasn't crossed the line and the other team is stopped from a promising counter attack? Will it be fair to stop a promising attack, just because the attacking team claims that the ball was in, even if the ref saw it clearly?

Whats the point in playing a game if the result is not correct. Did the ball cross the line or not.

Hi, Everybody wants a good life. Nobody in their right mind wants to die. There must be an underlying reason for his action. Obviously, something he couldn't handle pushed him off the edge. Our mind is pretty strange as it can cook up any kind of recipe and trick us into making an irrational move. Hopefully he will get better soon.

That is true, we have this instinct which wants to survive everything, but there are times when something goes wrong in our minds and we decide to do some extreme gestures, which will cause lots of pain for our beloved ones. He was released today from the hospital, so physically, he is okay I guess, but I don't know how is he doing mentally.

There are people who are weak at heart and very sensitive when people started criticizing or even make fun of him. I guess those things that are happening in his life is part of the reason why he wanted to end his life. He should at least quit his job and find something else he loves to do that he would excel. At least he would spare himself of the shame he doesn't want.

The same is in Romania also, there are many corruption cases and many suspicions about the way on how many referees blow the whistle, as were many referees arrested till now.

Yes, I came to know of this too and its sad that it has happened in the Bundesliga which I follow more regularly than any of the other leagues in Europe. I really hope this does not affect the popularity Bundesliga is gaining slowly in Asia and India, in particular.

Luckily, this kind of events are not so often in Germany, so it shouldn't affect their image abroad or inside the boarders of Germany. As a good news, he has been released today from the hospital, so I guess he is okay now.

It is sad when a human being wants to give up his own life. Instinctively all life forms will try to live as long as they can. So to not want to live is indeed against the nature and is something horrible. He must have troubles too big for him to take or handle. Whatever it is, I hope he could see a way out and think more about people who care and love him. There is always hope and there is always a light at the back. Nothing can't be solved. My best wishes to him.

The human mind acts strangely many times, so I guess it is hard to control it. I wish I never get in a situation when I will not have anything to live for, and I will always cherish my life. But we can never know, maybe a feeling is stronger than us sometimes, and takes the control over us.
