My husband loves Pit Bulls! Its the only dog he has ever wanted. He went back to work today and wont be home til Thanksgiving to see his 6 week old pit bull puppy that I went and got him today. I fell in love with this puppy but we have a cat too. the cat doesnt really like the puppy. I ended up putting the cat outside but its an outside cat anyway. We let the cat in for a little while everyday but I dont want them to fight. Any suggestions?

They were the best of pals. Our Bull Terrier, Robo - It depends how they are brought together which should be gradual
Cats and dogs do get along but they should be brought together gradually. My bull terrier lost its eye as the door to his kennel was open and the cat scratched out its eye on the first day the dog was brought in. That was an accident. But later they became the best of friends - a story that could well be tried for the Guinness book of world records. They became such thick pals that they slept together, ate together and played together. When my cat had her litter it would want the dog to be present. The dog would then pick up the babies nd clean them up. In this image you see them sharing a meal

The owners need to put in an effort to bring them together gradually and once that is done there is no looking back.

That is a very nice present you got your husband! Let us know how he reacts!! As to getting your cat to take to the new puppy, obviously don't push the relationship. But you also don't want to do something to the cat that it'll see as a punishment. Putting it outside everytime the puppy is around won't help matters. Is there a treat your cat especially likes? If there is, try bringing the puppy into the room with her, and immediatly giving her a treat once she sees that puppy. Is there a second person that can help you? The best way to do it is have someone sitting in the room with the cat, and have someone else bring the puppy in. Your cat will begin to put the puppy and the treat together, and will learn that it's not such a bad thing to have him around. Also, does the puppy get into the cats face when he sees her? Does it sniff the cat and kind of push it with his nose? Our newest dog (we've had him for a few years now, found him when he was about 2) did that to one of our cats when we first got him...my cat slapped him and he NEVER did that again! lol. He learned in one second to stay away from that cat. It sounds mean, but it really doesn't hurt the dog and it's just one animal teaching another one boundaries

Oh yeah, a cat attacking a kid (even on accident) is not good! I'm more afraid of the cats where I work then the dogs! lol And I wasn't saying that you were totally wrong in putting the cat out initially, I just meant don't do it everytime the cat see's the dog. Awww cute! We always had people bring us stray/injured animals (birds, kittens) because they knew we would take care of them and find them homes. We had a male cat that would help us take care of the kittens by "bathing" them. It was cute to watch. I bet a pit puppy playing with a kitten is even cuter! At least you know the puppy won't be a problem with the cat, you just have to get your cat on board with the pup! lol

The reason I put the cat outside when it started was because it acted as if it was going to attack the child that was holding the dog and I didnt want that. My husband will be home Wednesday and we will see what we can do about them. We found a kitten under the porch today (i have no idea where it came from) I brought it inside and cleaned it up and the puppy plays with the kitten.

I too love pitbull, but the one sings and dances...... probably you should see a pet counselor and ask him to do something which will make your dog & cat friends.. pat trainers know how to do this.. anyway i have a dog named Tom and a cat called Monty .. and they are very good friends and never fight.....

I worried that the cat was gonna be like this before we even got the dog.
