What do you notice when watching movies?

If I like a movie naturally I watch it several times for the sake of the story line. But after you have seen it a few times do you move on and then start noticing the landscape and places the movie has been made in? I loved seeing Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day Lewis with all the waterfall scenes and natural country. It was filmed in the Carolinas and really some beautiful scenery. Cold Mountain was also filmed in the same area and it really is some gorgeous scenery also. I tend to watch a movie for the first time to watch it but then when I go to watch again I notice more each time I watch a film. Specially when you buy the DVD and can view it when you want.

Hi marie, good morning Like you I too love watching all the background stuff while watching a movie. Some of them have great interiors and of course spectacular outdoors shot in exotic places and how can one miss it? As you rightly say a good movie can be watched several times and we see new aspects each time...all the best

The second time around we always notice things we missed when we watched a movie the first time, that goes for a TV show too. Each time you see the movie or a rerun you notice different things. After so many times watching them, it gets a bit boring. Enjoy

We can't afford the DVD's and don't have the hookups for the new DVD player a friend let us use. I have some DVD's and still have the old cartridges for movies. Nothing wrong with being a movie buff. I love movies, just can't afford to buy them or go see them. We just wait till they come on tv. Enjoy. Hug

I always say I am going to be the little old lady in the nursing home with her personal DVD collection and little dvd player LOL I have all the Disney Classic DVDS and have no idea how many other kinds I have. I live in Florida and we have hurricanes and sometimes have to evacuate. 2 things go with me my DVD's and my cross stitching. Hubby brings the important papers and we are off. yea that says a lot about me that I am a movie buff.

I tend to only re-watch movies these days if I want to see the story or the actors. I actually don't re-watch them like I did when I was younger. However, if the movie is filmed some place I know really well, I've been known to comment on things, like one where they had the actors going into a tunnel on one side of town and out another tunnel on another side of town. "You can't get there from there!" I exclaimed kind of involuntarily... good thing I wasn't in the Alamo Drafthouse at the time!

My hometown which was in St Charles Missouri is the first state capitol in Missouri. Later it was moved to Jefferson City. Our Main Street has a very historic look with original buildings that are now turned into shops. there were a few movies where they did shots using our street. I even remembered once they did not want the brick road to be shown so they brought in tons of dirt to cover it for the scenes they wanted to shoot. I just can't get into half hour shows anymore. Or even hour ones. I forget what is on when and half the time I pop in a movie or find something on Netflix to go to sleep to. thanks for sharing your story.

Now at my age I do notice the other areas of the movie. When I was young, it is only the actors. Sometime ago my husband has the opportunity to take on a cameraman's job. Now when he watches a movie he would tell that this scene is taken from a crane, things like that. It is quite interesting actually. Now I know why the actors has to do several takes on a single scene. That is because the director wants different angles of the scene. This is what I see when the movie does not have much scenic views. For those which have, this is what cinemas are for. Breathtaking!!

yes it really does take on a different perspective to view the movie from within. That had to be awesome to have your husband tell you about shots he got to take and how!

His was just a small job, being quite inexperienced. He must have seen how the rest of the crew work. Now we are always on the lookout if the actors 'change positions' on a same scene. You might have noticed it too. For example at one angle the actor places his hands on his hips and in another angle, he straightens his arms. Very funny!

Before I was watching a movie, I will first read a brief summary of the story or the story of the movie and of course, already knew the title of the film. When I was watching, I would pay attention to the names of the players and story lines from the movie, the time and the setting as well. Then the most recent is the attempt to understand the message or meaning of the story and try to apply the messages conveyed by the story. However, I do not always through these stages if the movie that I watched not so attracted my attention. If the movie was a series movie, of course, the story line, messages convey and character are nearly the same, but the setting or location of the places are different. So, I was not busy looking at the theme, but I was more of enjoying watching it.

I watch for memorable sequences and memorable lines. Also good fight scenes interest me. When I would be watching action movies, I would be on the look out for some inspiring scenes. Also not to forget the songs. Last but definitely not the least, the chicks!!!

Most memorable line in my lifetime has always been Rhett Butler to Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind. "Frankly My Dear I Don't Give A D*** First time a bad word was allowed on the silver screen. It was scandolous! A far cry from what we hear now on films and TV. thanks for sharing.

There are several different things that I will notice. I enjoy looking at all the different aspects of the film, whether it's the setting, scenery, costume, just to name a few things.

Hi marie: When a film has a special impact on me of course I watch it more than once. In my case I concentrate on the dialogues and how deep the feelings that are present on the film impact me. I try to get these same feelings the director wants to make me feel and I try to get a better understanding of the film. ALVARO

You are right I got to see that one in the theater had some very good shots. Did you see Memoirs of a Geisha? that too had some beautiful photography in it. Good choice you brought to my attention.

marie, I usually look on the way the director presented the movie after watching the movie for 2 to 3 times(Obviously, storyline comes first).

Well I do notice that the best of movies usually have a unique plot or an unexpected twist to draw their audiences in. If the movies have similar plots to TV shows or older movies, then audiences typically the know ho to ending will play out therefore it is not fun to experience an outcome you've previously predicted. If you hypothesize an unlikely income and it turns out this outcome occurs, then it feels satisfying that you've determined something not probable and it's rewarding! If you don't guess right, then you're still winning in a sense, because then you get an unexpected outcome and it becomes more satisfying and exciting!

I so agree there are seldom times when a movie is being remade that will have the same effect on you. However with that said, I used to watch the original Last of the Mohicans filmed in the 1930's era and have to admit they did a quality performance for back then. I love most of the classics myself. But the viewing of the new one from 1992 was simply sit down gorgeous with the colors and brillance of camera shooting to be able to get them walking behind a waterfall and various other spots through the movie. Now I want to watch it. May have to get it playing on my DVD. Thanks for sharing your information too.

Hello marie, My husband says that my habit is IRRITATING when we watch movies. I maybe notice something not important from the movie and then I start about half hour talking and symbolic meaning lecture. My husband said if we watch one and half hour movie it CAN BE BECOME THREE HOUR LENGTH MOVIE if you don't be quiet! This maybe means I MUST be quiet. :D Hahah... Oh dear dear! I always start thinking if some face impression could mean two different things. I know! I think JUST TOO difficult way! :)
