how to write an inquiry letter

I want to apply for the MFA of the advertising in The Chinese University of Hong Kong,so I have to write an inquiry letter to the professor,but I don not know how to write to him.I want to write it with authentic English and I am very polite reflect,but my english is poor.so i hope my friend——you teach me how to write it.thanks a lot~~
