Question about touch phone and manual phone

I have a question about those touch phone where you use a pointing device or finger to touch the screen including dialing a person's phone number. I'm so used to a manual phone, and if I do have a cell phone, it'll have to last me 3 years. Now, experience tells me that anything manual will certainly last longer than something that's completely computer-based, so I'm thinking a touch phone with only the screen to navigate and no keyboard buttons to press won't last the full 3-year contract. Am I correct to assume this? My BlackBerry has a manual semi-qwerty keyboard and it's still working for me, and it's been nearly 3 years that I had it. But the reason why I'm thinking of a touch phone is because it has a larger screen, and I would imagine easier on the eyes with large print. Please share me your experiences with especially the touch phone and how long they lasted for you so far, it'll help me make a good decision. Thanks :-)

Hey maishi I think touch screen phones are made to last longer otherwise these phones would not have lasted in market for so much time. Now a days every company produces touch screen phones so to keep up with the competition mobile companies improve there quality. With touch screen phones you sure get a bigger screen to look at and after some time you will get used to this technology.

I would hope so, because of its larger screen, but I also think most people purchase new phones every one or two years. Since I'm on welfare, I can only afford to get a free one through a 3-year contract, so that's why I'm asking around for personal experiences so that I can make an informed decision.

Don't think to much and go for it. Your phone will definitely last for 3 years.

It really all depends, what I normally do is try to get insurance on the phones, meaning that if my phone goes bad or starts to malfunction the store will normally give me a replacement, at least that is what I have done with my last two phones, including the last blackberry I had. Right now I have HTC phone, which I personally love, it is a touch phone, I have had it for a few months and so far I haven't had any problems with it, but you are probably right, the life span of these phones compared to the manual ones are probably a bit shorter.

Oh, right, my husband was offered insurance on his cell phone for like, ten bucks a month but he turned it down. I don't know if my carrier offers it, but I do know my husband's carrier does, and plus, it'll be cheaper for me to just join as a family plan member. I think I'll get the insurance once my contract at my current carrier is over in April. Thanks for the reminder

Based on my personal experience a family plan is probably the cheapest way to go. My hubby, mom and myself are included in the plan and we have everything unlimited (text, web) and about 2000 minutes a month, but all of our mobile to mobile phone calls are unlimited, so we have never gone over our minutes. But I would definitely try to consider getting insurance in the future, for me it has been a life and money saver.

I have a touch screen phone. And some services will give you a free phone if it tears up within the first year. Which Verizon did for me. My phone wasn't messed up it was my services was sending me triple messages and they thought it was the phone maybe glitching but it wasn't..and they have trades I think..

Hello! I don't have a touch screen phone and I am not planning to have one. I have friend who have it and her experience was after two years, the touch screen is not functioning well now.

That's what I'm afraid of, it "giving up the ghost" before the end of a 3 year contract.

I am using a touch screen phone and I use plane finger to dial a number when calling. I like touch screen phones in particular because of its large screen. I is good in watching video and playing mobile games.
