Non-toxic flea control

We have a flea issue right now at our house. Both the cats and the dog are scratching, and I am exploring non-toxic ways to battle the tiny villains. After much research I have decided on Neem oil. Why? For one, it is non-toxic to my little furry friends. It is safe, good for their skin, bad for the fleas. You mix it with water and a shot of apple cider vinegar and either spray and comb it on or use it as a rinse. Since I have one cat that totally freaks at getting bathed, I am leaning toward the "sponge it on and brush it in" method just to spare her that traumatic experience. And me the scratches and aggravation. I will let you know how well it works after "Battle of The Fleas- Part I" is over!

Hi Laceylinks, Another natural way that works for my cats is to put a large chunk of amythest (sorry about spelling of this no speel check) in their water bowls as this emits something that will not harm the cats into the water which fleas cannot stand so will not go on them, my eldest cat is 9 years old and has never had fleas so it works and the other good one is tea tree oil too a few drops on back of neck

Sorry, I don't believe a jewel has any effect whatsoever on fleas, and tea tree oil is very harsh to a cat's skin. I picked up some Neem oil and will make up a mixture of water, Neem oil and apple cider vinegar. In a spray bottle, this mixture can be sprayed on the fur and brushed through- the fleas hate it and it's good for the itching. I'll let you know how well it works.

I mixed Neem oil, apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spritzed my kitties with this homemade concoction, combing it through their fur. It stopped the scratching and itching problem and they seem comfortable and happy. It worked!

I think you can use some sulfur, because some years ago, in my house there is the same problem with the flea in chicken, and my father scatter some sulfur in the chicken farm, and it's work well. the flea is one about 4-5 days. But i'm not sure if it will harm or not to your cat and dog.

I haven't heard of that. I bought some Borax powder to sprinkle on my carpets at the house, I heard that will help get them out of the carpet. The other day we put all the pets out in the garage and bombed the house, then I treated all my critters with the Neem and vinegar mix. Noone is scratching!

Well I'm allergic to fleas bites. It is good to know that we can control them in some ways. I have only a bunny for now. But I was thinking when the time comes that we can have a cat and a dog, I've heard that the flea exterminator could for $ 25.00 for a cat could fumigate it and the problem is gone, with the dog too. It is quick and your done with the biting problem
