Hi people, please help I am recently experiencing some problem with my 500GB WD Elements External HDD, My PC Stop detecting my HDD, when I plug it into my PC, the LED of my HDD lit but it doesn't show up in My Computer, though I checked it to the device manager and it says this device is working properly. I wonder if I need some drivers or some software so my PC will start to detect it again, any valuable advice or suggestion from you is very appreciated.

Try connecting it into another USB slot and then restart your computer.. Do you need to install it before you can get to use it? If so, try reinstalling it too. You cam reply back here if you still need help.

I don't know how to check or use bios menu. I might ruined my system if I did that.

It may be your HDD is damaged.. you can try with several ways. first of all check if it is working with other computer/laptop or not.. and then try to yours.. above trick is almost 100% working if there is some minor issue.. restart your laptop by keep connecting your HDD in USB.. and allow system to start.. it may take longer time than your normal computer time.. but it will I guess can detect hard disk..

Hmmmm...I had that kind of problem too with my external hard drive. I can also see that the drive is powered and is lit too but the drive is not accessible or visible in my computer. I also tried to look for it in the Device Manager window and also found that the device is working properly. The trick that I am doing right now to access my hard drive is to connect it on my computer, then I will have to restart my system while the hard drive is connected in the USB port. It works for me as I can already access the contents of my hard drive. Just a bit of a hassle when you are trying to do something or is in the middle of working on another thing and you have to restart your computer. But try it anyway. It worked for me. I hope this helps!

I haven't tried your idea yet, I didn't know that it can be done like that, but lucky your HDD is not as stubborn as mine. This information might help me, I appreciate your effort.

Normally, a USB device should work right away when it's connected. I also have a 500GB external HD, but its a Toshiba, and I haven't encountered any connection problem with it so far. Have you tried googling it on the WD website, they should have some information on how to deal with this problem. I had also experienced connection problems with a 2TB WD external HD, and I was able to find a solution in their website.

We have WD external drive too. My problem with it was when I am playing music from it connected to my laptop, it's having some errors. I forgot what it says but I did not attempt to plug it again and play songs from there. With your problem detecting it, the least that I can think of is for you to try plugging it to another laptop just to check whether it's your port that has a problem or the HDD itself.
