So for the past week now, my jaw has been killing me on the right side RIGHT in the joint. I think I've been clinching my teeth at night but I'm not 100% sure of it. Anyway, I can move my mouth side to side but it hurts something FIERCE when I do it. I can open it so far and the pain starts in SUPER bad as well. I've also noticed that I have to be careful what I eat because if I have to chew it really hard it makes my jaw hurt. My jaw completely locked a few years ago and my dentist told me it was inflammation from doing stuff like chewing gum and that an anti inflammatory would help. Any have any suggestions of an over the counter one? I really don't want to go to the doctor or dentist just yet.

Just try using mefenamic acid. Whenever I got some problems with pain due to my wisdom tooth or any inflammation, I use mefenamic acid to kill the pain. Dentists and doctors alike prescribe mefenamic acid as pain killers and anti inflammatory medicine. Use it three times a day during the morning afternoon and evening every after meal if possible. But I suggest that you only take it if the pain is excruciatingly not tolerable. If it is tolerable, I advise you not to be dependent on mefenamic acid. Also, you can try having soft ice cream. I know that dentists will suggest you to have ice cream whenever there are problems in your mouth or teeth area. Try to search more about what other says in the internet. Surely there are a lot of information on how to eliminate such pain that you are experiencing at the moment. I hope that you get well soon enough!

mefanamic acid is an anti inflammatory and analgesic .its a painkiller better for tooth pain. but before having this tablet u should have food as much as u can. because these tablet are hot character . so if u have it empty stomach might cause ulcer and some small abdominal distrubances

Oh I see! I wish I had some but sounds like they are prescription time pills. Unfortunately I'm having to stick with non prescription. Something I can buy over the counter until I decide to go to the dr.

mefenamic acid is really good and it really helps a lot...so many brand names to even choose from. as for me, i only use dolfinal. it's effective after 30mins of taking it. just be sure to have something in your stomach. eat before taking it. the medication lasts for only about 4 hrs so if the pain is still present then you can still take another tabs every after 4hrs...

Is this something that is sold over the counter? I've never heard of it before and I'm not sure if its an over the counter pill or if you have to go do the doctor to get a script for it.
