They don't call their Thanks Giving Day as Black Friday. Black Friday falls the days after Thanks Giving. Thanks Giving is a celebration of thanks and Black Friday is solely establish for businesses. They call it Black Friday because they have profit and not loss. When they are 'on the red', it means that businesses are losing profit but when they are 'on the black' it means that they are gaining profit.

It is the kickoff of the Christmas shopping period and as such, is a hectic day with shoppers trying to get their shopping done early; and The sales are so high that it is the one day of the year that retailers are assured of being in the "black." It is a mad rush for deals with some shoppers camping out all night to get limited deals being offered only during early morning hours. Black Friday was used to compare with the heavily stressful and chaotic 1929 Stock Market crash, called "Black Tuesday." But in terms of shopping, it is used to describe the extreme traffic and crowds among the streets and stores on the day after Thanksgiving: This is when the Christmas sales officially begin. Bus drivers and taxicab drivers also use this name to describe their headaches that they would receive on that day from the people rushing to get to the store sales on that day. It refers to a financial term. Most stores and shops operate in the negative and are losing money for the entire year. Then the first day of the Christmas shopping season, their sales jump up enough so they make money or, as they say in accounting, they are "in the black friday.

They call it black Friday because it's the one day out of the year they are guranteed on their books to show they made a profit. Hence being in the black is good, rather than being in the red (negative).
