Paint has a lot to do with darkness in a room. As Maxima says, try painting it with very light colours. Power saving lights give less light that the other lights so you might consider buying energy saving lights that are more powerful.

I suggest light shades of paint like cream, white, pale blue, pale green and pale yellow. I like lighting in the form of ceiling lights, wall lights and table lamps. I use energy saving bulbs that are better for the environment than ordinary bulbs. I know some rooms face north so are dark and other rooms face south. I think house plants are nice in a room with natural light. Good luck with making your home more light looking.

You can also try to change the wall color if you want. I think it will give your room light ambiance. You can conserve energy then.
