is it good idea to get degree in medical transcription or coding?

Want to work at home and was thinking of earning degree for this career but now I am hearing that it's difficult to get in if you have no experience. Looked at some job listings and most do require like 1-3 years experience. If anyone is working in this field please share your experience with me. Was it very difficult to get started?
