to help or not to help???!?!?!?!

Yes, it's always good whenever we can help anyone even in the littlest way possible. But there's this question that's always at the back of my mind whenever I see a beggar asking for alms on the streets. It's like this, "if we'll help those beggars and be kind and considerate enough to lend them even a single penny, do we really help them in that way or are we just merely tolerating them in their chosen way of life??" Of course I know that there are just people in this world who are so unfortunate enough that they are forced to live in a hard way, but I do believe that there's always a way in making one's life better... What do you guys think????

If the person looks like they really need help, and you can usually tell, then yes, I do help them, but there are some people that you have to be very careful of because some of them don't really need any help, they are usually just begging because they don't want to work. I have actually known a few people who have done this. There were two men in Glendora, CA who were notorious for this, and they scammed a lot of people out of their hard earn money for it. They made people feel real sorry for them, and they made a lot of money off of them.

People like to take advantage of people who they think they can get money off of. This happens quite often.

You are right with that, maybe we choose the beggar whom we help, like old people, handicapped that is not capable to work. It's not really wrong to help beggars, if we know whom to help. =)

Oh, that's really terrible! Why are there people who don't have enough conscience and can stand doing such things to others?!?!?!...x-( And I strongly believe that there will always be "Karma." Whatever bad things they did to others will surely return to them and it will be a lot worse than that. In God's time it will. And that's for sure.

There are other ways you can help but most people tend to only give some penny or food because that is what they can afford.

That my concern too. I think it is better if we could visit an orphanage or something like than giving out on streets. Some of those people are just pretenders.

True!. And that way, we are more assured that whatever kind of help we are giving out is being used diligently and that it helps those people who are really in need.

And I hope that the people we are helping are those who are really deserving of our help.

I am thinking of that too whenever there are beggars who would ambush us in the streets. God said, whatever you do to the least of your brothers you are doing it to me.But yes, I am also thinking that there are so many things they can still do aside from begging in the streets. Instead of helping them by giving alms why not let them realize that they can still do something. Sometimes I can think that they are so lazy to look for other means of living. Probably they are making life easier by doing that.I don't know. I am so confused about this thing. In the end,I end up giving them. It's up to them already what will they do with their money because some just use it for their vices. We'll at least I've done my part. It's up to them if they use it wisely or badly.

So true meticulo. Why can't these people grow up and stop being lazy so that they won't bother other's conscience anymore?!?!!?.. That's just pathetic, both for the beggar and the one being asked for alms.

It's not easy for everyone. Some people try so hard to find a job in order to survive but no one is accepting them. So they resort into begging. Although I know there are always a way if we really wanted to survive. Some are doing it because they're just lazy to find ways to eat in a day. Some are just so helpless they have small kids they can't leave at home. I think it's just hard to think about what situation some people are in. If we can help them in a small way, then maybe let's give some, like foods or a small amount of money.

I agree with you, but helping people in need is a good deed. It depends on how you help them. Like for the beggars, I don't give them money, I give them food instead, for sometimes we don't know their way of living, by giving them food I know they can survive their hunger anyway. =)

Yes, that's very true my friend. I also do the same thing. I never give any money to them, instead a food as my way of helping is better. If they don't like it, it's not my lost. I tried helping anyway... I just hope that there would be less abusive people who beg for their own selfishness and just out of laziness.

Yeah, you are right, some people just find begging as their source of income, and don't even try to look for a better job. I really do hope they will also try to stand on their own feet.
