Help or get a New Job

Here's a little background. I work as an LPN an the local jail. We have 1200 inmates so there has to be medical staff in the building at all times. We have been short staffed for a couple of months because it is hard to find competant help that enjoys the environment. During these months a few of us have been working 70/80 hours a week. As a solution our administrater made up a mock shedule where everyone would work 12 hour days. This was a pretty good idea, but then they changed it so that either you worked m-Th or just Friday, Sat, and Sun. I could understand everyone being upset about this, because who wants to work every weekend. So as their next idea they decided to keep it at 8 hour shifts and to start a mandated rotating shift. When an open shift came up you were picked according to seniority to work this shift. After you had worked it your name would not come back up for the mandated shifts until everyone else had worked one. This is a great idea and completely fair. Would it be inconvienent sometimes?? Sure, but then at least everyone was doing their fair share and not one person was working all the overtime. However, I already heard some people whining that they couldn't do this or they couldn't do that. What the hell??? What other job, especially in nursing don't you have to pitch in when extra help was needed, especially in nursing?? What other job can you say well I just refuse to come in??None, unless you want to lose your job. I just wanted to shake these people. Basically what this new schedule meant was that about once every 10 to 15 days you would have to pick up a shift. Keep in mind that none of these people were hired with a specific schedule other than wether they are full time or part time. The big problem is that for the last two years, under different management, they got what they wanted and others got crapped on. I just want to kill them. Have you run into this problem and how did you solve it??
